I rather my taxes goes into feeding the poor or helping drug addict kick the habit.
If I am able to make a choice as the Government I will dump every single convicts on a continental size penal colony far, far away and left them to fend for themselves among some of the world's most dangerous creatures in an absolutely unforgiving environment.

Now what would I name that penal colony?

it can cost more to kill someone, btw, in a legal system.

anyways, like i said, we really shouldn't go there.

Only if we contiune to let him/her go appeal after appeal.... even after everything within the law has been done..... wasting everybody time and $$$.

it's not as simple as that.

the reason why the legal system makes allowances for appeal is the fact that sometimes, things DO go wrong, and innocent people get the death penalty, and the case is only realised after they have gone.

i'm sure you've seen it before. everyone has the right to a fair trial, and no system is perfect. get over it.

Yes.... everyone have the right to appeal for his/her own life as much as the laws allows.... not drag on forever. We are not talking about police stuffing small amount of drugs into your pocket to sabo you for money.... we are talking about being caught in the airport/factory/at home.... 'red handed' with large amount of drugs.

Yes.... no system is ever perfect.... that doesn't mean Crime Done need not be dealt with.

Well if you look at courts over the years in AU, they have always been lenient on drugs never set deterrent sentences.

You hardly ever see anyone getting more than 10yrs for drugs, then there are appeals, if held in custody awaiting trial that becomes time server, also taken into consideration when sentencing.

They dont seem to take into account what effect this would have had if the drugs are on the streets.

There as a report just recently indicating that Australia, is now the most profitable country in the world for drug sales, more than the USA or Europe.

That's what Great Britain did with the unlawful elements of their society.

They sent them to Australia where there were crocs, vipers, sharks, etc.

But out of it rose A Lucky Country.

    agree, its something that's irreversible.
should the accused later found to be innocent,
there is no way to bring them back to life.

but what i'd like to see is harsher prison life.
    like our army,
    it has gone soft.

    :
until u r innocently seating in the dock waiting,
    u won't see differently.

i personally know someone who's CONVICTED wrongly.
like to know how he is compensated after 3yrs in prison?

    that said,
i still believe in our legal system.
better than the 'judge by ur peers' nonsense.

True, we should make convicts suffer so much that they automatically commit suicide on their own free will.

Although I don't agree with them, there's a whole lot of clean economy that these folks are supporting. I think there's no need to judge or prescribe a severity note between an illegal drug manufacturer or a pick-pocketer. For all we know, they're only runners with severe financial needs being paid by some Aussie kingpin.

Maybe that's why they don't have the death penanty, if they do, they have to hang everyone

That don't give them the excuse to do something to ruin the lives of others. Everyone have a choice.

Thot it is legal in the Netherlands.Their 'coffee shop' is for smoking grass and all sorts. Last time when I was in Ams near the red light district around just mins from the centrum railway station, some guy whispered to me 'ecstasy ecstasy' (I first thought XTC but whatever).
Friends say this is their right to decide what they do (drugs, porno etc). Different culture.

BTW was told the dutch has a joke on SGP (just bringing it up, no offence and feel free to correct the version I heard): in Ams, you can just walk up to a SGPean and ask them to give you their wallets and they will obliged to do so without asking. i.e. SGPeans are sooooo tamed .

Heard many times SGP in Aus involve in drug trafficking / selling etc and all were big cases when was living there 10+ yrs ago. Does not surprise me to hear it once more today.

many laws makers are themselves using drugs, or they belong to drug syndicate which make ton of money hence they are against harsh punishment to protect their brothers.

people who push hard for human rights are actually trying to protect their own ass.
