Default Wonder where to get Worn Out, Weathered looking wood

I was wondering if anyone could help me a bit.

I'm looking for a medium-large piece of worn-out looking or weathered wood.

Similar to what you would see in garden tables or picnic tables that have been left out in the sun and rain long long.

    Examples:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/bcbusinesshub/2532527187/
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/tracy_brown/3331489441/

I don't need the entire table. Just the TOP.

Anyone have any idea where I can get something like that here in SG?

    Thanks in advance.

p.s. DIY is not an option, or at least not easily if I have to leave it exposed to the elements for prolonged periods.

go to most beaches and scourge around..... lots of PP required

a friend of mine actually took a whole lot of railway woodbeams (bolt holes and all) and turned it into a garden set...... really beautiful after the cleanup and treatment.... but heavy as hell

but just be aware...... ALOT of wood you will come across will not age well..... old GOOD wood is very scarce nowadays

The beach is your best bet for this. Depending on how big is the size you're looking for, you may need a trolly to move it as it will be very heavy as it is wet, after you bring it home you'll need to sun it for a couple of days to dry it out followed by a few weeks of clearing out all the sand that fall off every time you move it
I get paid more shooting part time ...... damn, I should find more time to shoot part time

If you can consider buying, you can try the furniture shops in Dempsey Rd or the one in Alexandra Rd. I've seen the one along Alexandra Rd have furniture that are placed outside to weather. Call to confirm, of course.

    Thanks guys.

Just to clarify, I'm not looking for the entire picnic table.

Just a piece or pieces of wood enough to make a shooting surface for still life shots.

Something the size of say 3/4 of a typical HDB door would work.

I'm wondering if I can get something from Ikea, stain it and then 'season' it a bit ...

Thanks Ortega for the move and suggestion. Will check it out! Now that you mentioned the SA, I do remember that they place a lot of stuff out in the open!

I went to a furniture workshop once and the boss told me that they actually send the wood out for blasting to achieve the desired surface effect.

    Look something like this

    Thanks An Drew.

Would you happen to have the contact of the furniture workshop boss?

Yes - have seen these - Some of the broad walks in machritchie park were looking worn out in Dec. Think nparks was looking at replacing them. In early Jan they were replacing the ones at the golf link. Might want to do a wander around there to see if they have more although it is about 5K........if you can do it

There are also plenty of old logs in there. The warden's hut is in the middle of the park!

Another place to go is Bukit Timah Hill....the warden's hut is at the beginning of the park.

Don't have the contact with me at the moment. But he mentioned that it is an expensive process and it is done by another company.

Maybe you can try this company instead.

Alternatively you can try Dempsey road where there are or were a few furniture companies with outdoor furniture.

Try, no 9 lavender st or few shops along the row, there's a timber yard, maybe they can help. If you're lucky maybe can get it for free, good luck.

Also can try...kelong, fishfarm and nursery garden, most likely place to find. Kampong along the coast of M'sia sure to have.
