Default Macro Lens vs Zoom Lens

    Hi all

This is my first posting here... just joined a couple of days ago...

Not sure if anyone has asked this question before, so well, please forgive me if I am asking a question that has been asked previously...

Could anyone enlighten me on the pros and cons of using macro lens vs zoom lens for doing close-up shots... am interested in doing close-up of insects etc...

And if I am to get a macro lens for doing such close-up shots, should I go for a 100mm macro, or a 180mm macro?

    Thanks much.

    Welcome to ClubSNAP

There is no rule to say which setup is better for macro shots. Of course a dedicate macro lens can do better job.

if you are going to do close-up shots of objects which will not run away, i guess 100mm macro should be enough. a 180mm macro will be much heavier.. I just got the sigma 180mm.. close to 1kg.. compared to the 400+g of the tamron 90mm SP I got..
