You chose the D3000 before or after comparing against the above?
    I don't subsidize marketing campaigns.

Ok.. If you've tried other cameras and made up your mind to get the D3000, you should stick to your decision.
We are not here to decide for you.
If you have any concerns about D3000 then ask away.
Otherwise just buy it and enjoy taking brilliant photos!

I am just wondering, shouldn't one consider the camera 'system' he or she is getting into? After all, this is just the first entry level body that the person is buying. Once he or she starts acquiring lenses and accessories, it will get really expensive to switch.

I don't know what I am talking about; it's getting late

you are right... buying a DSLR is more than just buying the camera body.
But TS seems to have decided on the D3000 after comparing several competitors... so... I guess that's that.

edit: I still see many tourists with DSLR + kit lens only, so the saying "DSLR = system" may not necessarily hold true all the time.

True. Most will never move beyond the 'entry level body + kit lens' phase.

    Hey TS,

i don't know much bout d3000, but i remembered coming across this review:
    http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d3000.htm

i don't know how good a d3000 is, didn't actually manage to feel one so far
But i think with 800+ as your budget, you can get a second hand d5000 w kit lens (prolly 900?) from our B/S section.

if i'm not wrong, d5000 made a much better camera than a d3000. And if you're just trying out, you might wanna get a second-hand one. Since the resell value wouldn't be a big difference in the case that you wanna go for an upgrade or something. just my take to this.

Of course, do consider other brands before making a purchase! good luck!

    Thanks!
Actually, there are friendly and helpful ppl for all the brands. (there are nasty trolls as well.. of course).

Check out the friendly and helpful Pentax subforum if you have the opportunity.

MHO is that its a smaller community with a regular monthly outing, giving a 'face' to every person on the forum and ppl stay nicer that way once you get to know each netizen face to face.

BTW, price guide section for all brands is here:

#1, the law here says you need to post your B&S items in personal classified section.

#2, digging a old thread resurrect it is "No No".

#3, in case you don't know, the TS has not been log in for more than a year, he may have already give up the hobby long ago.

    since TS has already MIA.
