Very seriously thinking of a digital SLR.
Can some gurus advise the basic setup + cost - D70 I.e. besides the body - what are the necessary accessories must get - lenses. etc (besides CF and battery, and tripod). Approx cost also, please. (I sincerely request. and please. do not sway the reply towards alternatives like 8700 or canon etc....) |

Not a guru but had my D70 just a few days before. Got the kit lens and I think it is OK for general photography. For me I prefer wide angles and thus also got the 10.5mm fisheye and waiting for the Nikon capture ver 4.1 so that I can have 2 lens in 1. I also have the SB800 which IMHO is a very good flash system and work flawlessly with the D70 also comes with all accessories, no need to buy extra. Other accessories that I think is a must is the remote ML-L3 (not release yet). Still waiting and evaluating the 17-55mm for the replacement of 18-70mm.

Welcome to the digital world.. hehe.. I think an important question to ask first is what system are you already using? If you are an existing Nikon user you would probably have a full set of lenses.. however if you are new of the Nikon system..
What I think is good to consider.. (your shopping/wish list) 1. D70 2. 18-70mm f4.5-5.6 AFS (item 1 + 2 - SGD2100) 3. 50mm f1.8 AF-D (SGD180+) 4. SB-600 (though not available yet) alternative SB-800 (SGD660) 5. 60mm micro f2.8 (if you are going towards macro work) (SGD650, second hand SGD400+) 6. 80-200 f2.8 AF-D IF-ED (if you are in a mid range budget) (SGD1560, second hand SGD1150-1200) 7. 70-200 f2.8 AF-S VR IF-ED (if you are on a large budget) (SGD3100, second hand hmm..) 8. 70-300 f4-5.6 AF-D ED (if you are on a tight budget) (SGD580, second hand 300+) 9. 12-24 f4 AFS-DX (for wide angle) (SGD1600+) Sigma's 12-24 (SGD1150) 10.Spare batteries at least 2 x EN-EL3 @ SGD80 each 11. Spare CF Cards - 2 x 512MB + 1 x 1GB or 2 x 1GB WA Lexar (or Ultra II sandisk) Your realistic list 1. D70+18-70 AFS 2. 50-mm f1.8 3. 70-300 AF-D ED 4. SB-800 5. 2 x EN-EL3 6. 2 x 512MB CF Note: the 10.5 proposed by Dennis is a love/hate lens.. coz it is a rectilinear fisheye. You may find that you will have less use for this. MOre of a specialist lens. Honestly I have the 16mm f2.8 FE and have only used it say for about 10times? |

The associated costs should include the following
1. Camera accessories - SB-600 or SB-800 flash unit (Must have if you want TTL function) - Grey strip for white balance calibration (good to have) 2. Digital Darkroom - Color Management for Monitor/LCD Calibration tool - Photoshop (good to have) - Photo grade inkjet printer & papers (should you want to do printing) - Printer Calibration tool (good to have) 3. Software - Nikon Capture 4.1 (good to have) - Image management (the basic Adobe Photo Album is free to download) 4. PC System (assuming you already have a decent system) - additional hard disk capacity - portable harddisk with CF card loader - Appropriate backup system - depending on the volume of images you have - Additional RAM - min 512Mb, Ideal 1G |

24mm cost about 580.00 and the 35mm cost about the same.. for 165-170 for the 50mm f1.8.. I would go for that.. Also doubles as a good portrait lens. |

the main point because i wana buy this lens is ... i wana take my sis baby picture ... as you know the baby like to move around plus the light in the house is also dim and my sis wornt allow me to use the flash ... so this lens is the better option for me to buy another is i also can take some Portrait (can make the background blur ). finally its realy cheap ![]() Last edited by Beachboy; 2nd March 2004 at 01:33 PM. |

I have Tamron SP 24-135 already, should I still get the 18-70DX lens? As the 24mm will become 36mm on D70.
