Question Shuttle Lag for D70

For all the new D70 owners, can check how fast is the shuttle lag of the D70? Is it faster than 300D?

i think you can feel it right? if you are not bothered by the lag when you fully release the shutter, then you can consider it fast .

it is faster than the 300d, but not so much that you'd consider it a major selling point. i do feel that there's a noticible shutter slap on the return, sufficient enought fo rme to comment on. i was hoping that it would be better damped.

Actually a couple of us.. Watcher, AJ23 and myself feel the shutter sounds and feels whimppy.. hehe.. compared to the D100 and D2H. It feels too dampened..

No shutter lag that I can discern with, I was happily firing away in continous mode non-stop.

However, I find that the mirror and shutter mechanism is too damped, and pardon me for the language, it's so well damped that it's kinda...... sissy.

ps: Before anyone starts to shoot me, that's only in my opinion.

You like loud shutters so much, should have bought a F90X.....it'll probably be your idea of a man's camera.

Hehe.. you should try the of the Mamiya 645ProTL or the older Bronica's.. man.. can wake up the dead.. hehe..

However I do like the shutter and mirror slap of the F5 and the D2H.. gives a sense of presence..

Not really. I find it rather subdue, kinda "hey must not attract attention" sound. Not loud but must be distinctive and have presence. Like "I'm a D100/D2H, here me take a picture" kind of pride...

Heh....well loud shutters are good when you are out for some carefree shooting. But really jarring if you are covering some quiet moment like a wedding or a concert. I had a love-hate relationship with my F90x because of that...

ehh.. let get back on topic..

I have noticed no shutter lag on the D70. It is almost instantenous.. but I would really like to take it out for a field test to really confirm..

Ok, personally I feel that one should try the camera personally to feel if the lag is acceptable. Different people have different needs and tolerance to such things.

Mirrors are ideally as dampened as they can be, to reduce vibrations when shooting. Some cameras, in particular the fast ones, are constrained by the need to move the mirror faster to enable high frame rates, which means it's harder to dampen a faster moving mirror thereby resulting in louder mirror slap.

Nah... I don't like loud shutters.

But again, I don't think loud shutter is my idea of a man's camera. Why I use the word "sissy" is that I can't find any other word to describe the way the shutter sounds, the other word probably being "wimpy". In fact, why not woman's camera, why man?

Sorry, tongue in cheek. Just ignore me.

I've touched the D1x and D2H, I can say I'm sadist, but I love the shutter sound.

I also like the responsiveness on the D*x/H series.

On -> Sleep -> Press Full. Camera wakes up, AF's, fire as you push it down.

This is almost applicable on all the Nikon DSLRs I've every played with... ooo I'm wanking, I'm wanking!

Early morning equipment measurbation is not good.
