it is a creeper hanging high from forest trees. you can also find it on big trees in secondary forests and heavily wooded areas. Many years ago I have seen it around Kent Ridge and Telok Blangah Hill area. Unless it is fruiting it is quite hard to find it unless you know how it looks like. The leaves are quite big. But there are many species of this (also called passion fruit lah) genus of plant, some have big showy flowers and some are rather small. All have the beautiful filament-like petals (I think they are petals).

here's what i found in a guidebook. this climber has thin, hairy stems and tendrils. it was introduced from south america. leaves are thin and hairy with 3 rounded lobes. flowers arise singly from the leaf axils. each flower has 3 pale green, much divided mossy-looking leaves just below the calyx. the calyx is ring-shaped with 5 white needle-like sepals. there are 5 white petals and just inside them are 2 rings of purple threads with white tips. fruits are small round orange berries, each enclosed in 3 moss-like leaves. there are many seeds which are found inside a milky pulp. the ripe fruits are edible but they may contain hydrocyanic acid. this climber is common in waste places, roadsides and open places. it is often found scrambling amongst lalang and bushes. here's another one. ![]() |

yes this is one of the small species, even then it is a creeper. I understand it is an introduced genus but quite widespread, I have seen this plant in Thailand countryside (Ratchaburi near the Burmese border). as long as there are flowers it is unmistakable.
never tried the fruits of this kind before. during my NS days in 1980 the big leaved creepers are quite common and we often get the ripe fruits which is as big as a large orange and orange in colour. it is the passionfruit which you bite a hole in the skin to suck out the white gooey mess with the black crunchy seeds. *yum*. which is why it is called Buah Susu, or “milk fruit”. |

very nice, at least from a botanical point of view
![]() BTW, I found a very small (flower 1 cm across) species growing in the bush at the Bedok Swimming Complex. It even have fruits! But the flower is not so colourful, like grey-green in colour. Next week I am going back with my cam and +9 close-up filters ![]() |
