I'm looking to switch over to Nikon, and I need recommendations for the correct camera. I shoot almost purely weddings every week (as work), so I need a reliable work horse that will be going through in excess of 1,000 pictures each week. Here are my requirements in order of most important to least important:
1. AWB - I seldom have time to toggle between WB settings so I need a reliable AWB that is consistent especially with and without flash. 2. Accurate metering 3. AF Speed / Build quality 4. Image quality Would appreciate your input! ![]()

Does it mean that canon DSLRs like D60/300D, etc cannot make it for your above criteria since u just sold all of them? Just curious.

I haven't tried D70 before so cannot comment. Otherwise I'd recommend the S2 Pro especially since you're in the business of covering events/weddings which involve mostly people photography.

Based alone on your first point.
The D2H & D70 suits exactly what you need. |

1 & 4: I would prefer the S2pro off camera image compare to D100, colours is better IMHO. at time of churches or low light, using ISO800 makes S2 a clear winner. For AWB, IMHO, om situation of not being accurate, S2 tends to swing towards the warm side while D100 tends to swing towards the cold side(which is not ready what you wan in a wedding). tat say, the D100 can fine tune your WB(+-3) which the S2 cannot. 2: both works abt the same to me. normaly shoot in manual anywei, the meter gauge is jus a guide. 3.AF speed, i feel is the same. though D100 seems a bit easier to focus more accurately (when you have cluster things in different planes) due to it slightly bigger viewfinder. Build and handling, well to me, no doubt is the D100(provided w the batt pack). previewing when you need it, on D100 is also faster. D100 histrogram looks better, and can show areas of blownout. cheers. Last edited by Jus_a_Nick; 29th February 2004 at 04:40 AM. |

The D70 has the same metering as the D2H, and does exceedingly well in AWB. The metering is also conservative that will prevent blowouts on whites which is very prevalent in weddings. You still can change the camera's response with the in-camera curves (assuming that it is present in D70s) to give you a more punchy, agressive pics without additional post-processing. The D70 feels hard and sturdy with no creaky parts anywhere So 1,2 and 3 are settled. As for 4, I've not seen a full image myself but given the comments and the fact that it is a 2nd gen sensor to the 1st gen of the D100, the images from D70 can't be *that* bad... The D2H's images are in another class altogether, but alas, only 4MP that might inhabit you from doing large prints which is quite common in weddings... |
