My advice is to start off with the 50/1.8 without even using the 18-70DX, this should give you a very good understanding of working with a limited zoom (what zoom???) and composition together with the basic controlling of the camera.
![]() CF card I like to psyche people to get the Lexar series, with it's Image Rescue software, you'd never have to worry too much on losing pictures even if the card is corrupted. BluesJr is selling one piece in buy/sell now. Don't worry too much on the accessories to buy now, esp what X-drive, Nixvue etc etc. And mainly decide what you want to shoot before plunging for zooms and other lenses. The SB-600 is due in May. So you'd have 2 months to save up now ![]() For me... I like shooting events & humans. So if I have a D70 ... I'd get: AF 50/1.8 - Portrait lens, sharp, fast & good bokeh. AF-S 24-120VR - Fast, sharp & VR module allows you to be on the move and shooting be it events or holidays. AF-S 12-24 - Landscape mainly, would bring this out to holidays. But it's only me... oh well.. maybe one day I'd own a D70 ![]() |

Any pointers on Tripod and Ball head?? Bang for the Buck? But I prefer not to upgrade too fast on this so looking at 200 - 250$. Is it sufficient?

Selection of tripod depends mainly on your camera setup, if your lenses don't exceed the 70-200, you might want to consider a Manfrotto 190 Pro + 488 ballhead for beginners.
You'll need to bring your gears down to test unless you're confident enough it can support. |

Just stick to the 18-70mm lens. It's fast and dead quiet! I did a comparison with my other lens ie. 18-35, 50mm and I cannot find any reason why I should let go of the lens.
Go spend your money on longer or wider lens or save up and get that flash sooner. |

Thanks khinmarn
After seeing the image quality of 18-70, I think It will be a very good everyday lens. Think I will take your advice. ![]() |
