About S$100 for a brand new CF card (not ultra-speed).

What's the difference between the "normal" and ultraspeed ?
Does it affect much ?

eurox, the lexar wa is designed for "write acceleration", and hence one of the faster cards to consider. there's also some other things for which you pay a premium for, such as the recovery software and lifetime limited warranty.

the best way to buy "cheap" is to get used ones, though these are not items you see frequently here.

The Lexar's with WA and the Ultra II are my choice. Preferably 512MB x 2?

According to BH site, Lexar 40x 512MB WA CF ~= USD159.95 (x 1.700) = S$271.91 excluding shipping.

I believe you can find Lexars at AP though. So might be cheaper.

The Lexar prices listed there are quite high. I know locally people has gotten the 1GB for $470, and 4GB for $1.9K+.

or you can wait for the new Lexar WA series 80x with a write speed of 12Mb/sec.

If you shoot at JPEG Large, a 256MB can only contain about 85+ shots. So it really depends on your shooting style.

Just in case you were wondering about the performance, do visit Rob Galbraith's CF DB for a comparison...

There are two opposing view on this.

With a smaller card, if there is any loss to the card itself or the data due to corruption, there will be much less loss. Furthermore, they are cheaper and with a portable image tank, you can alternate with your cards and the so call size disadvantage cf large CF cards will disappear.

With larger cards, you can shoot non stop, and not be interrupted when shooting. With a 1GB card, you can shoot >300 JPG large (scale accordingly). However, the damage is correspondingly large. Transfer to an image tank takes longer, cost will go up.

I personally am a middle sorta guy , Got a 1GB, 1x 512MB card. More than enough in most circumstances on JPG...

Gee... what makes me?

Any way, my personal suggestion will be 1GB, should be able to take 300+ images on Large-Fine, which would satisfy the needs of most casual users.

i thinking of getting the transend 45x 512MB.... according to HWZ price guides it should be around $256+-..... sounds good 5 years warrenty... and the 45x 1GB on the http://www.robgalbraith.com/ website seems to do very good on the D2h... and reasonable on the D100 comparisons.....

You?!? You know which one lah! Most old birds here know of your CF cards... .

Totally agree as 300+ shots (about 8-9 rolls) is more than enough for an event or model shoot...
