Default Where to buy Canon S45 in Singapore ?

Hi All,
A friend of mine from overseas like to get one Canon Powershot S45 from S'pore. Checked with the usual suspects TK, Cathay, discontinued (only S50 available)

Any one knows where to get one at fair price ?
Shop name & rough location will be good...

Thanks very much !!

It's really hard to find the S45 as it's a discontinued model.

I have the S50 and it's a good camera with a number of advanced features (e.g. can choose to save in RAW AFTER shooting).

As such, instead of searching high and low for the S45, suggest yr fren consider buying the S50 instead. S50's RRP is $950 or so, and you can probably get it at AP/CP/MS at $850 or so.

Cheers!

Dear MW & Zaren,
Thankz very much for ur helpful comments. Let CS know bit more abt situation...

My frenz wants the S45 after trying out mine and impressed by the pics & rich set of features.

He got budget of below SGD800 for a digicam. Best price S50 is abt SGD835~50 more (what's 50 bucks u say, well I asked the same Q too )
VideoPro pricelist put S45 at SGD769, of course now not avail.

He also bit worried of chromatic aberrations and bad redeye prob. see dpreview, excerpts:
Conclusion: Lets be honest I think we all expect more from Canon than to simply bolt a larger sensor into an existing design, but that's exactly what they did with the G5 and the S50. And what's the reasoning behind this? Market pressure. Both the G3 and S45 are excellent cameras which get the absolute maximum out of their four megapixel sensors, produce very nice images without too many undesirable artifacts. Indeed in my opinion nobody actually needs a five megapixel compact camera, it's just a case of 'bigger must be better' (I'm sure we can thank some retailers for this).

While it's true that the S50 carries all of the excellent features, control and image processing from the S45 it can't be said that the lens is as good a match for the sensor as it was with the four megapixel unit. This is clearly visible in the strong chromatic aberrations which can occur (this is the same thing we experienced with the G5). This is the reason I can't give this camera 'Highly Recommended'.

Link to dpreview of S50

I'm sure above is not a big prob, unless you take pics in bright sunlight or niteshots and you blow them up big...or examine them with a magnifying glass!!

Well he just thinks S45 is better deal for his hard earn cash, now....

So, still hoping someone knows where to get S45 in S'pore...let me know.

Thankz!

All I can say is, the S50 is a good camera, and 5 MP gives a bit more pixels for cropping purpose.

In any case, if purple fringing/CA/dynamic range/noise are of concern to yr fren, perhaps he should just save up and buy a DSLR. I have the S50 and a Fuji S2Pro. The S50 is primarily for my wife to use, and we also take it along on family outings whenever I don't feel like lugging the S2. But picture quality and handling wise, the S2Pro is much better.

Gd luck to yr fren's S45 hunt!

The S45 is a pretty good camera (my friend have one and I use it now and then) did not notice any Chromatic abberations but then again, it's mainly a Point and Shoot camera and should not be compared against the prosumer class like G5 or the newer Pro1.

One thing I dislike abt it is that there is no battery life indicator.
It only has a battery low LED light that blinks when it is low and when it blinks......the camera can only last a little more...

I would estimate the battery life to be abt 2hrs of shooting (not continous lah) with some reviewing of pictures via the LCD...
Especially at night or low light (for example in a pub), when the AF-assist lamp + LCD + flash saps up the battery life VERY fast...

A 2nd battery is highly recommended (3rd party ones available).

I think carrefour Suntec is selling the display Set. Try checking out with them and see if they can lower the price since is a Discon model.
