Default Metal migratory birds of the French, American, Indian variety

A tank driver's worst nightmare

Tripod-mounted this shot at 1/180s @ F11 at 420mm ISO200 to get the rotor blades to blur slightly and beat the focal length to shutter speed rule.

Slow burn

1/760s @ F8, at 368mm ISO 200

Crossed swords

1/250s @ F1, 251mm ISO200 Tripod mounted, panning for the rear helicopter hence the blur on the upper left aircraft.

Untitled

1/350s @ F8, 420mm ISO200

Form up on me

1/1000s @ F8, 386mm ISO200

Discreet Dauntless

1/350s @ F8, 140mm ISO200 A shot of the RSS Dauntless, patrolling the waters off Changi, and perhaps in the plane guard role as well should the unthinkable happen. They probably had the front row seats.

Default Shooting notes

Arrived on site amid the blazing midday sun, parked myself under the closest palm tree when I spotted the UAV buzzing by to signal the start of the flying display. Fortunately close enough to the flying zone (200m away from SAF Ferry Terminal). Put my tripod right up against the wall to prevent others from blocking my view.

Mounted my camera with a Sigma 100-300mm F4 plus a Tamron 1.4x TC, onto an Acratech ballhead-installed tripod. At least that's what I think it is......

After a few shots, settled on +1 and +2 EV, depends on lighting conditions, shot in AV mode mostly. As clouds occasionally came by, I used ISO 200 to ensure the shutter speed did not get too slow. The overhead sun did not become a huge factor as I had thought it would be in casting an overhead glare and hence rendering the trip a waste of time.

A sharp eye and ear is required if you wish to capture as many sequences as you can, each plane enters hot on the heels of the exiting display, especially for the combat jets they like to enter fast and loud. So you need to spot them quickly and aim up quickly too.

Images were captured in RAW, white balanced, PS-ed, cropped and sharpened up for posting here. I have tried to post angles that haven't already been excellently covered by Oeyvind and Jer76.
