Default What does the SMC in Pentax lenses means?

Hi guys, I got a question which may sound very noobish, hope you all don't laugh at me.. What does the SMC in Pentax lenses means? Eg. SMC Pentax-FA 35mm F2 AL

I am guessing it could be Super Multi Coated?

Thanks bro! Is it the same as those highly multi-coated (HMC) Hoya filters? Does other brands lenses have this as well? Does SMC in any way protects the lens from scratches?

By the way, SMC stands for Super Multi Coat, which is a Pentax lens coating technology that is supposed to greatly reduce unwanted reflections inside the lens

In 1971, Pentax introduces the Super-Multi Coating (SMC) to their lenses.

You can read more on the SMC here.

It's probably the best lens coating around.
I say the lens is the soul of a camera. What about the body? Well, it's just the body...

Ah yes... takumar lenses are radioactively good.

If I remembered correctly, Pentax and Carl Zeiss had a joint venture when they developed the 7 layers of coating. SMC is "probably" similarly to Carl Zeiss D* (?) coating. Both are great in their own ways. And these 2 companies are pioneers when it comes to great lenses. Zeiss and Pentax are My memory not very good, so perhaps someone might want to verify this.
