Default Where do you shoot Kievs?

Although Kiev 60/88 belongs in the world of Medium Format, it doesn't revolves in the league of Bronicas, Mamiyas & Hassleblads. While I've seen photographers with Hassleblads & Mamiyas out shooting openly (wedding outdoor shots usually), where do owners of Kievs shoot their russian tanks? Anyone uses it for serious assignments (photos for magazines, weddings etc)

Personally, I've tried chinatown once with my 6C. My 88 is still sitting in the dri cab yet to be initiated.

Thanks & rgds

I bought kiev88 from another cser, it's really fun, fully mechanical than the usual 35mm manual camera. To have potrait shots I dun need to be standing far away to use potrait lens in 35mm area.

But no metering so relying on experiences and feeling, just a bit lazy to carry another camera for metering and i dun have a light meter.

Try this link http://medfmt.8k.com/mf/kiev88.html

I was told there is a store called the "Dinky D Store" on the overhead bridge shops infront of Clifford Pier selling russian photography products. However, I bought my Kiev over at ebay.

Mine is a Kiev 88 modified by Hartblei, with a Pentacon 6 Twist Lock mount and Mirror Lock up, 2pcs 6x6 backs, Spot meter prism, waist level finder & an Arsat 2.8/80. However, I'd probably be selling off the arsat as I'll be using carl zeiss jena biometar MC 2.8/80 & flektogon MC 4/50 with the Kiev 88 kit. Additionally, I own a Kiev 6C (which I use to shoot panoramic pics with a 35mm roll) and a Pentacon Six TL (portrait 6x4.5).

When you plan to shop @ ebay, do ask the seller as much as possible about the camera. Take note of the lens mount and whether its straight from the factory of had went through any form of quality upgrade. Price wise, it'll vary according to demand for those with quality upgraded. If you do not want the hassle, you can try Arax Photo . A light meter will be useful shoud you not get one with a metered prism.

If you ever get one soon, let us know.. maybe we can go for a shoot together sometime.

I got mine for USD330 inclusive of economy insured shipping in a post christmas auction and I think was a good buy. The same set would have cost about USD200 more in the build up to christmas also probably due to the lack of bidders in the auction as most would be celebrating.

You'll have to pay a premium if you want to include a pentacon six mount (88CM or 688 twist lock bayonet), Mirror Lock Up, New Type (NT) Backs & Spot Meter Prisms. To me a Pentacon 6 mount (so that I can use my CZJ lenses) and Mirror Lock Up are very necessary features. Another thing, there are also Kiev 88 with Mamiya/Hassy range prices. for these sets, they usually sell under a different name like ARAX or Hartblei.

Good Idea. Maybe if there's more than 1 Kiev ard, ppl will take it as Kievaholics working out (as in exercising). A little tied up this weekend how about on Sunday Morning 7th March.
