Industar-61 L/D on a Bessa-R...

Hi! This is my first thread on the forum.

I'm worried about buying my first rangefinder body and lens. I want to get some quality items in the cheapest way as is possible... my thought is to get a Bessa-R from CameraQuest + an Industar-61 L/D from Ebay or Quadrobuy.

But my trouble comes when the Industar-61 L/D is not an exact 50mm. lens (is a 55mm.)... then I don't know if I could get some problems focusing or composing the image thru Bessa's viewfinder.....

Anyone has some experience with this combo (body + lens)? Or could explain me if coupling this soviet lens on the Bessa-R won't work fine...

Not sure abt Bessa-R, nv use1 b4. Is that LTM39 too?
Basically I-61 and many LTM39 can be use interchangeable on similar design body eg. the FED. Zorki. 50mm, 55mm is not much of a different. Maybe the different of the distant of moving your head 10cm?

To use 35mm or 85mm len on those cam (FED/Zorki), you need a universal turret finder. You see, the rangefinder itself has abit of parallax error unless the camera has built in correction, dunno how much it will help though. Even on SLR world, 40-55mm is so close probably one step forward or backward from a 50mm len.

One wierd thing I realise even on various 50mm I tripod mounted to shoot picture to compare len's characteristic, I find that same 50mm length may look different in term of angle taken from the same scene. Some look more compress even len from the same manufacturer. I think the element design contribute to the differences in picture so I think it's the optical characteristic.

I am currently using a Industar 61 LD on my Bessa R and no problem at all.
No much diff will a 50 and 55mm on the R.

You should buy one from ebay.

I bought mine for only US$9.90 + US$15 shipping.

Its so cheap, even if you dont like it you would not be heart broken cos you only pay 10 dollars for the lens

I have shot with the exact configuration. The bessa R couples nicely without any problems with this lens. This is a very sharp lens albeit the price. I bought mine for $7.00 usd. Be careful when you buy of ebay, sometimes the lens can be quite old. The last 2 digits of the serial no tells you the year of make.

This lens has a very interesting history. LD is a "hot-glass" ie. radioactive. The mineral is known as lanthane. It has Low dispersion characteristics and was commonly use in certain soviet objectives for the LD purpose. A little yellow in colour, you may hear the Giger counter going if you place it close.

This is undoubtedly the most underated lens. Shoots well with black and white. The make is a little coarse...but the pictures are much more than the lens looks. makes a great 50mm companion to the Bessa 39 screw mount range of cameras.

This is one little ugly bugger that dispels the myth that the more you pay, the more you get. In fact, its one ugly duckling that produces beautiful swan pictures....that is if you are serious enough to switch to manual instead of having the computer take the pictures for you. ( I have nothing much to say of AF and A-everything.....as i shoot manual everything when i am shooting for myself).

Learn the zone system....use this unassuming lens...after a while, you will junk your expensive cameras for the most basic equipment and laugh at how silly we once were...thinking that taking great pictures means having to buy the greatest and latest.
