Default 50D vs pentax kx vs D90 plse help

hi i have narrowed down my choice to this 3 sets of cameras. kindly advice which set should i go for?

i have gone through lots of reviews but still cant make up my mind.

D90 nikon - work well with poor lighting still produce good image
50D canon- semi pro camera which can help me advance in my skill , but read from somewhere the image is not as clear as D90 if under poor lighting n high ISO
pentax kx - best entry level camera, most value for money

i have a budget of 2k.. i like to do bokeh stuff with my kids n macro with my products. might do travelling only once in a yr. kindly advice which is most suitable for me and which lens to get with it.

    thanks in advance.

And what if you follow the advice but end up unhappy because of something you haven't considered? Will you blame this forum or the respective users?
Go what you can afford, go for what you like to have in hands, go for what you see as the best option considering your own personal situation. Please read more and quote this 'where' properly, rumours and half-knowledge shouldn't be part of any (reasonable) decision making process. All cameras are capable of delivering good pictures. These 'low light conditions' should be clearly defined and the lens used must not be neglected. Still the question remains whether these very specific but extreme conditions will really matter to you when taking holiday pictures in daylight.

If you're dealing with kids, I'd suggest a camera with Live view and a tild LCD (so the kids don't know when you're taking the shot). Fast liveview AF too.

So i'd say Sony A550. Also very good in low light.

dont forget the smile shutter and inbuilt hdr to ensure you constantly catch the moment with supreme details utilising the well known sony bionz image processor and not to mention access to an impressive legacy of minolta lenses..
all at a mega cheap price, who would want to miss out on a deal like that?

Cheapest of the lot, with features to match.
    On camera HDR also have.
Great legacy lenses easily used, with proper exposure measuring and AF confirmation for manual lenses. Cheap manual lenses too.

goodness u just added another camera into my consideration.. i went out to courts earlier.. i told them i own a old flim minolta slr.. immediately they brought out the A500 to show me n tell me how my old lens can fit and i dont have to spend extras on it.

i am pretty indecisive.. one more headache.

btw, i wont blame anyone who is advicing me lah.. cos ultimately it is my own choice. I just need advices to which will suit me best.

i like D90 cos of the low lighting with good effect is because my compact camera always fail me in low lighting. i went to harvey norman to have a feel of D90 and 50D, and love the grip of D90.

pentax kx is good but i know D90 is better, unless u tell me they are equally good, then of course i will opt for kx.

certainly needs more advice cos i dont want to waste money buying another DSLR which ends up like my film DSLR sitting in my cupboard.

if u think i am very incline towards D90, yup yup i am. but i need more reason to back my buying cos it is more expensive than pentax kx and sony A500. if i cant find a good reason to buy this set, i might as well settle for pentax kx or sony A500 / A550

thanks all. be patient with me can?
first time in such a forum asking for advice.

This is a big point to consider.

Also, the A500 uses the same sensor as the D90. The quick AF live view and the little features like in-built HDR, face detect, etc, can be helpful.

But it's you who needs to decide. If the D90 is just "calling out" to you...

check out side-by-side specification comparisons to help u make a logical decision.

hardware wise D90 has the best viewfinder of the 3 (almost the same as 50D tho). it is likely that you might still prefer as large an optical pentaprism VF as possible since u come from the film era.

the down side is: the amount invested in the lenses will cost you more in the long run

The only plus for the D90 vs the K-x/A500/550 is its pentaprism viewfinder. Whether it's worth the extra few hundred bucks you have to decide for yourself. Definitely a no from me, not to say its liveview is far cry from A500/550's counterpart and lack of sensor-based IS also.

Do consider weight as a factor since u mentioned kids & travel
Both can be tiring w/ a heavy DSLR system

have you considered getting an Alpha?

the Nikon D90, Pentax k-x are both using the Sony EXMOR Sensor found in A500, A550 and A700. Picture quality and noise control is pretty much similar across these models.

If you are on a budget, u should be considering k-x and A500/A550. Not only are both these cameras extremely cheap (for its performance), they also have build in image stabilizer.

K-X cost around $988 street price.

A500 cost around $1099 street price, but currently there's a promotion going on where they are giving out a free vertical grip (cost $300 if buy separately), so if u factor that in, its even more value for money then the k-x.

If you are into kids photography, u should really consider a Sony Alpha, as they have the BEST live view of all camera brands. Live view combined with tiltable LCD screen of Sony Alpha will be extremely useful for taking candid shots, especially of kids (as they wont think that u are trying to take photos of them, thus they act more natural). This is something u cannot achieve with alot of DSLRs of other brands, the ability to take a photo without looking like u r taking one.

And for macro photography, u will LOVE the manual focus live view mode of the A500/550. This function allows u to magnify the image in ur live view 14 times, while u r taking the shot. With this, u can accurately focus ur lens to achieve even more better sharpness.

I recommend the A500, or the A550 if u feel u need the 7fps speed (good for kids running around i guess). But if u dont wish to get an alpha, u should give the pentax k-x some consideration too. Its a very good camera for its price. For myself, i cant find a reason to buy the D90 over the A500/550 and pentax k-x though.

PS: The above is just my opinion. Its still up to u to decide which camera suits u better

u can keep the A330 as a backup, or pass to wife/gf.

My gf complains that the A500 and Minolta 7D too heavy for her. She prefers the A330 (which I sold already though).

Guess for girls, weight is an important consideration more than functions

er, you base this on? features?

"better" is a matter of perspective, if you don't care about certain things, then the k-x will be better, when you take in the whole big picture.

for example, do i need the max fps on the 1d mark III? do i need all the additional features, the better noise performance, etc? do i prefer smaller camera bodies? if so, won't the 400d be "better" than the 1d mark III for me?

Err...u hv minolta lens??? What lens are they? If you have Minolta AF lens, then don even need to think already.

All minolta / Konica Minolta AF lenses will work perfectly on Sony Alpha (and Sony Alpha lens will work on Minolta Alpha/Dynax/Maxxum bodies).

Im using a couple of minolta lens on my Sony Alpha. Even got the Minolta 70-210 f4 (manufactured in 1985) working perfectly on my camera.

aiyo... saw these comments abit late cos i cant resist D90 calling out to me.. haha

i went to sony main store n the guy really nearly talked me into buying A550 or 500. So finally, i took those minolta lens i got and tried them on the sony camera. Sadly, he told me they fit into the camera, but only problem is.... those lens i have are very slow. so even if sony can take fast picture of kids, my lens will be the hindrance...cos of that, i was pretty disappointed and head over to challenger and asked about D90 and he told me build in stabilizer is not good cos if movement too big, the picture will be blur.. my partner who was beside me, heard that, and commented, in tat case we get D90 then...

haha so tats how we decided....

thanks guys for all the valuable opinions.. i really learnt alot in this 1 mth while researching on which to buy. I think my knowledge can beat any saleman in Sony shop =P.

slow focus of lens isnt an issue actually, U just need to anticipate the movements. I have used a minolta 70-210 (the oldest minolta AF lens) in a basketball match and I can still capture the players correctly. Im sure your kid will not run as fast as the basketball players right? I have also took photos of cars moving pass me, people cycling etc. All these movements are much faster than kids running around.

And the challenger salesman is definately trying to mislead you. Stabilizer, whether is in lens or in body, is NOT MEANT to compensate movement at all. Its to compensate handshake vibrations. Motion blur is a result of using too slow shutter speed...

I think its quite unethical that he tricked you by giving such comments in order to make u buy the more expensive D90. Not saying the D90 isnt good, im just saying he is very unprofessional in not explaining in details the differences and giving false information.

BTW what minolta lens do you have? Can PM me? I might be interested I tends to prefer minolta lens over Sony lens.

    of course la, duh.

please do not join the ranks of the xmm who shake their cams while taking photo to test the inbuilt IS.

it is to overcome normal handshake, not to perform some holy miracle.
