Default RIM 2 - Evening shots

The car barely came to a stop when a few Baya Weaver was spotted gently feeding on some lalang. No time to setup tripod or flash...just shoot and hope for the best.

The longang that Harlequin mentioned offered lots of shooting opportunities. Managed to get some images of bee eater and brown shrike from there.

A brown shrike. I like this one, it looked so cute with nice reflections in the eyes.

This is the last image of the evening session. Looked like scaly breasted munia to me but I am uncertain as the tail is grey (more than a tinge) in colour. Shot from the same longang!

Till the next activation!

Cheers!

PS: I would like to take this opportunity to inform CS members that NPS is organising an outing to Khatib Bongsu on 28 Feb 04. Avian and macro shooters will be present. Join us there if you are free.

Great shot of the cute little Brown Shrike! It has a very captivating moment and good details in it.

Count me in(if possible). Although I don't have big lenses, but I still got my binoculars. Cheers!

Avatar,

Thanks for the help and comments.

Spectrum/Garion,

Thanks for the comments.

tom lim,

I wish there is an easy and direct way to reply to your request.

There are logistic issues to resolve. The car is jammed packed each time the CSBF gang is out shooting. Activation is on demand, meeting places; shooting locations are not decided until a few hours before hand or over breakfast. A small team will function more efficiently in these arrangements.

Shooting alone is not very safe. On the other hand, too many photographers in one place may risk not getting the shots as our movements or individual actions may scare the birds or animals away.

Shooting conditions in Singapore and America for that matter is quite different. In Florida for example, a 70-200mm zoom can get lots of good close-up shots (Harlequin even used a P&S to take some bird in flight shots!). Unfortunately, the same is not applicable to Singapore that is why long lenses are required.

There are other concerns as well, some of which have been mentioned in past threads.

While we are looking into how to accommodate the requests of many, I do not foresee a solution will present itself too soon. For now, I would suggest you PM Harlequin your contact number. Who knows, you may just be activated one day.

USM/Spectrum,

I have checked and understand that first outing with NPS is free for all. After the outing, participants who wish to join future NPS outings can sign up as NPS member for a mere $50 annually. One of the advantages is that new participants can have a hands-on view/experience on equipments (macro or tele-lenses) used by nature photographers. This can help make their future purchase easier if they are going into nature photography. Of course, they will get to meet new friends, share ideas and share experiences etc…

Cheers!

SK,
I like the blue sky on the last shot, cropping is just a bit too long for me.

Anyone going to Khatib Bongsu with NPS this coming Sat (28/2)? It’s a long way in from Yishun Ave 6. Alternatively, you may want to hitch a ride by indicating your interest at the following NPS forum.

Cheers!
