Invest in good tripod and get from cathay. After sales services is important for parts replacement. Good tripod goes a long way. I think new shipment of tripod are in now.

Just curious. What's wrong with buying from Cathay. As far as I know, they have the most extensive range of tripods and Steven offers great customer service.

Like to recommend Fotografix at Lucky Chinatown. Not in any way related to the shop. The prices there are comparable to those at CP, but can bargain lor~~~
The last time I was there, saw some Manfrotto and even Gitzo tripods and heads. |

Only CP has a large varieties of tripod/monopod which you couldn't find else where. And that's for sure.

Actually, I went to CP last Saturday wanting to buy the Gitzo 2220. This is the only design in the market which allows you to position the centre column at any angle. Unfortunately, the last piece was sold a few days back. The CF version cost twice ($700-$800). For a tripod of this size, the difference in weight between the aluminium and carbon fibre ones is not that significant (300g less, $400 more).
I agree that a good tripod and head is a worth while investment. A good set can outlast many bodies and lenses. |

I was quoted $750 last week! Could it be the rising EURO? |

They have a promotion sale around mid of last year(I think?). Maybe you can look out for any promotion sale again if you're not in a hurry.

You know what they say, Buy a Gitzo and you never have to buy another... that's because you won't have any more money left to buy anything else.
