Actually normally I would want to choose a place that suits the theme that I want to shoot. For example, if the theme is "working class", I'd probably shoot around Shenton Way area, etc. And when shooting portraiture, unless the background is really very outstanding that it is worth include in, otherwise I would prefer to blur the background to isolate the model. The blurred background should still match the theme though.

Places with lots of trees are harder to shoot, as the green background is usually uninteresting, especially in tropic zone when the tree leaves are just dark green. Some ideas that you can try are: e.g. rustic background, concrete jungle, colorful places, old buildings, places with interesting lighting, etc.

Do note that when you shoot at Botanic Gardens, the park rangers will ask you to leave. When you shoot around Shenton Way, depending on which bldg, the guards will also shoo you away. Sensitive spots are the MAS Bldg, GIC etc.

How about a studio shoot with a blue or green screen?

could be the shooter ask the model to go into the bushes, or into the pond? I think as long as we stick into the paved walkway there should be no problem.

    who told you that?

everyday so have so many people shooting at Botanic Garden, shooting birds, shooting insects, shooting flora, shooting people, shooting landscape, shoot dogs, nobody complaint, I also shoot there quite often, never encounter any issue.

go and check out N park website, see what are the do and don't.

I dun mean the normal casual shooting. I mean when u set up umbrellas, reflectors and have a model, makeup artists etc. The park ranger will mysteriously appear and ask for a letter of authorisation.

this has consider commercial shoot production, you need to write in and may need to pay usage of the park.

Filming & Photography Prior approval for filming and commercial photography in the Gardens is required to be obtained.
Applications have to be submitted at least 7 days prior to the proposed filming or photography dates.
Please click here for the application form.

If I am taking a walk in Botanic Gardens, I wouldn't want to encounter groups of photographers, models, make-up artists with umbrellas, tripods, lights, generators, portable toilets, etc every corner I turn. It is a public garden, not a film set or something. The rangers are doing their jobs.

I had my pre wedding shot there, and so are a few on that particular day. We didn't get chase away or received any reprimanding. I guess the rangers are off that day. But then again none are using umbrellas and generators so i guess its fine.

I have check with botanic gardens before, you can shoot weddings, pre-wedding, family portrait or whatever shoots, as long it does not look like shooting for commercial usage, they won't come and bother you.

tell me what does this looks like to you, any auntie or ah soh will think that is 电视台在拍戏.

I think botanical garden with one or two reflector is OK. Just not multiple umbrella and strobes.
