    Default Japan

Any question about japan can be asked here and tips and more can be share.

Let me start the ball rolling.

A good restaurant i always eat at without fail is hibiki (xiang, for those who can read kanji)

Food is medium priced, with a good meal for 4 going for about 10000 yen.

The outlet in shiodome has a good view of the tokyo skyline at 46F

going to Tokyo coming 6 Feb, any idea usually which day of the week got less people at Universal Studio Osaka? Been there only once 1.5 yr back and hoping to go again this time, the last time i go is in the weekdays, Monday if not wrong and its not even their school holidays and already very pack at 10am. Really don't wish to buy the express ticket but last time for every ride, got to wait lik 45min-1 hr for each ride especially those popular ones.
happy for 10-20 min and misery for every 45min-1 hr

got any tips for that place?

need not buy express pass 4 or 7,

i went on xmas day, queue was not very long, and besides, whole place is pretty boring

technically 30 mins on most rides, except jurassic which was much longer.

i suggest disneyland, or you could go like me at 9, since i stayed at the keihan universal tower

There is a pass that can be purchased at the train stations which covers entrance to the aquarium and unlimited rides on the nearby railway lines, it also gives you discount to some area of interests in the area.

There are different prices for different coverage, so you would want to see which suits your purposes more.

As for the standard of the aquarium, it is fascinating for me, but made the mistake of going down on weekend, the huge crow takes away a lot of enjoyment.

Osaka Universal Studios is pretty small. It opens at 10 am. Do not go on weekends.

I went in the morning and did not buy the fastpass coupons. Most attractions had a waiting time of 10-20 min. Go after 3 pm and the entrance fee is cheaper. I finished most rides (except the roller coaster - I am too old for that) by 3 pm. Had to wait for an agonising 4 hrs before the parade started.

Visit the Japan National Tourist Organisation (JNTO) Office Level 15 of Hong Leong Building. Tons of brochures to collect. Bring a least a 24 inch bag if you want to clean up the shelves. On the ground floor is the JAL office and next to it is Creative Tours that can sell you hotel stays in Japan and the JR Railpass. Very reasonable rates quote in Yen and transact in SGD base on the prevailing currency rates.

Try hitting the local morning wet markets early in the mornings.
It adds to the trip experience as well. learn some simple numbers and u can haggle a little :P

They got great cheap and fresh seafood. Much better deals than those in the restaurants.

Anyone can recommend good eating places (not those ultra high-end restaurants) in these places:
    1) Hakone Yumoto area
    2) Hakone Machi area
    3) Shinsaibashi/ Dotonburi - there are tons of eating places, but dont want to step into "wrong" restaurant
    4) Pontocho area (Kyoto)
    5) Tokyo Shiodome area - heard that there is a famous food street here. (saw the recommendation on hibiki, 4 for 10k, a bit out of range).
    6) Nikko Chuzenji are
    7) Central Nikko area

Going in the first week of March is there any unique events at that time?
Only noticed there is a thing called Girls' Day.

And where is the cheapest place to buy Panasonic GF1+20mm or the Olympus E-P2?
