Newbie with C730 need advice

I've always have an interest in photography. A little slow in catching up with the digital age. Playing catch up right now.

I am particularly interested in Aquarium and fish photography, followed by nature and portraits. Aquarium fish photgraphy seems quite a challenge and I've a lot ot learn. Nature with the available outdoor light, I am coping OK. Portraits I am very bad. I think I need a lot of work on lighting.

I have a old cheap tripod which just gave way. Anyone have a old one which you don't use anymore that may be useful in my situation. Can I have it for a token.

Please tell me what are the best settings for Aquarium Fish and Portraits. Thanks in advance
