Default SDHC - chipped off one side...caused it not able to detect?

    Hi guys...

Sorry if this question was asked before, but I was frantically searching for a similar thread but cannot locate it that I decided to post a new thread on it.

This a snap of my SDHC card used in my Fuji S2000.

It was ok last night when I snapped some shots using it and was able to download onto my PC, but just now after I re-inserted into my camera physically, the memory card cannot be detected.

I tried several method I can think of "reformat" and cleaning the terminal of the card itself, still the problem cannot be solved.

Any idea what could be the cause, the only thing I think of the "chipped" top corner and wonder if camera malfunction caused by it is warranty covered.

    Thanks for any help render...

If the chipping of the plastic case does not affect the metal contacts behind, shouldn't have any issues.

Thanks, as prior to I reformat this card, it was able to read on my PC, so I concluded that it could be the terminal inside the camera cant detect the card, maybe I bring down to Fuji have a check

The snapped off piece, where is it? Able to locate it? Or was it left inside the camera?

I have not idea and I did not notice the "chipped off" in the first place, but at this stage I think it has nothing to do with the inability to detect the SDHC.. thanks

When I went for my product training, I was told to never mix the SD cards with your normal data use, like storing files/songs on it. And if you have reformat it, have it done on the camera. Risk of card failure to be detected is higher if you were to not heed the above advice.

Have been using the SD card on my desktop/notebooks and PDA/phone, have realised that it rings true.

Some times the reader in the camera maay be dirty. You may want to clean it with a memory slot cleaner:

    Saw one at Daiso before.

Another question. Did the chipping happened before or after u put it back into the camera?

Can your camera detect other SD cards? Is the chipped off piece still in the camera?

The PCB of the SD card is alright is it?
If so, the SDHC card should not be spoiled.

    Hi Guys..

After I called Fuji and asked around, I was advised to try to see if another memory card is able to detect and it was able to!

So it was confirmed the depicted was malfunctioned, so I am wondering if this SDHC can be RMA or not thanks

I cannot recall but I only noticed it when I happen to look at it after the "non-detection" took place.

Now memory are so cheap, no point sending it for RMA.

    Hi kopohui,

i find your case interesting to be taken note of.

May i know whether your SDHC was "chipped" as the result of indirect connection between DSLR and computers via card reader (need to take out memory card from DSLR and insert it into the card reader, and then plug in to the computers's USB. When finished downloading images to PC, unplug the card reader from computer's USB, take out the memory card from the card reader, and then re-insert it back into the DSLR)?

I think your problem is in a way related to my question/poll posted in another thread @ http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=623197

As mentioned, I only realized the 'chipped off' when I happened to take a look at it... It could have happened like what you described but all I say this card was solely used for the camera since day one.. and I just cannot figure out how and what could have caused the malfunctioning of it.

Furthermore, it was able to read when I inserted to my PC but not the case when I re-inserted back to the camera.

Thanks for sharing the link as I didn't realize some actually prefer not to take out the memory to insert to their PC as fear of risk damaging the card, perhaps I might try that method

You are afraid of damaging your SD card but not your camera? :P I find it hazardous to leave my camera around / on the computer table with a dangling wire whenever I need to grab pictures off the SD card.
