Cool Forest Birds (part 2)

Ok, I took Erwinx's advise and went shooting in the jungle again, this time armed with my Monopod... and the results speak for themselves, the Poorman's IS technic is further enhanced...Erwinx, thanks!! And yes, I also included my low end flash 430EX w/o extender, it does help especially in the jungle... kind of dark.

Banded Woodpecker

Common Golden-backed/Flame-backed Woodpecker

Ashy Tailorbird (ok this isn't exactly a forest bird, more like a Mangrove bird, but since it came by, I captured it as well... there is a water mass nearby)

Wow, significant improvement in sharpness over the shot taken w/o monopod

Woodpeckers ..... yummy yummy.

2nd image is showing an interesting tongue?

The flash if fixed onto a flash bracket and raised to a higher position may reduce the "red eyes" effect.

Cheers!

very nice pics of the banded. I find them to be the noisiest woodpeckers and so easy to locate, but always high up in trees, but you got a very good angle.

it must be my imagination but is that a leg ring on the common flameback (i.e. escapee???)

Thanks Avatar, I discovered that forest birds require different technic from coastal birds... next time we go shoot together ok?

Good captures Jason, definitely much better than the last time round. The monopod and flash does help quite a bit. Keep up the good work and keep shooting!

p.s want to join us in our next RIM outing?
