It's possible to 'overshoot' with digital, you know. There comes a point where you spend too much time filtering and processing digitals, upgrading your harddisks, doind backups, etc. It's best to find that 'sweet spot' of number of shots where the hobby just balances out nicely, with enough shots to work on and enough time for other things.

For me, too few is about 1k a month, too many is about 8k.

What's the life span of a DSLR? Say 10D. Under normal usage about 1k shots per month.

FWIW, it's not really expensive to replace, even when out of warranty. i think about $200 or so.

Base on 50K shots...ST1100...base on average 4000 shots per month, means your DSLR can last your average 12.5 months??

I got my 10D in late Nov 03, and to date it has about 7000 snaps. I think I better slow down a little. One tends to overshoot with digital and usually only about half the frames are usable in the end.

But at about $200 for servicing and a new shutter, it's not too hard on the wallet when the time comes to change.

With proper care and regular servicing, the shutter mechanism of a camera SHOULD BE able to go beyond the rate life.

But again, some rate 300k releases might just go at 3k.

Erm, i guess so, but i think my shutter's rated higher than 50k.

The F5 that was rated at a million shots, IIRC, was sent in for cleaning and servicing regularly, even when there was nothing wrong with it. It was also operated in a studio-type or controlled environment (not rain/snow/hail/desert). Most of us do not bother to send for servicing until something goes wrong. (Bcoz of $$$)
