I think most people shoot alone? Anw, I shoot alone. People (especially Singaporeans) would look at my gear and then look at me. Or the other way round. I don't care. Some people think it's silly. Some think its weird. They think cameras brought onto the streets are mostly for taking candid photos of their own friends' unglam moments. Don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just that our interests are different. Just do what you like. There's nothing wrong with taking photos.

    alone...

in a group, it's masturbation of me...

    end up, chatting, networking, chatting...

i think the process of capturing emotions on film or whatever media is a creative process that is akin to a mediative one.

i got to feel of the composition.

    think of the exposure.

feel for the image impact again.

then again, there's a duff beside me chatting with me?

    hmm, no thanks.

Same here I always go shooting with my wife, better than going shopping or movies.

In some way, serious photography is an anti-social activity

However, with the proliferation of entry level dSLR which is on a trend of encroaching into the P&S market, we can expect to see more rubbernecks with dDSLRs strapped on their necks.

We should draw a distinction between social photography and serious photography work. People are increasingly using dSLR for social and candy shots, isn't that photo-taking too?
Of course those photos at best qualifies for Facebook uploads.

There are also group photographers on overseas trips with the distinct purpose of photography. They travel in groups partially for security reasons. People also gather together to do photography when there are some major events. Other than these, serious photography is kind of anti-social.

The question can go deeper into about the likelihood of casual social shooters venturing into serious individual shooting and invest more into photography, or they'd just stay with their 10x room lens permanently attached to their dSLR bodies. Just some of my wild thoughts, again.
