when they say free, its almost always included in the price

find out the market value for the camera then call up MS or CP or AP and ask for their pricing. They will normally have bundles with CF cards, either an extra or upgrading the 16Mb card to a 128 or 256.

Wait a while, all the new digicams going to be in soon and prices for older ones will fall. When it happens, you can either grab the camera you want at a better price or choose a newer model

hope it helps.

This is a Canon promo and not by the shops. It is thus a genuine promo. The CF card needs to be claimed from Canon

However, the promo is over since Nov 27th 2003

what i meant is, for the price you get from the promo, its almost always the same price or sometimes higher as compared to when you get from shops since canon has to control pricing.

The promo works this way:

You buy a Canon digicam (selected models eg G5) from any of the shops eg Cathay or Alan at their usual best price

Then you are eligible to claim the free 128 MB CF card from Canon during the qualifying period (but which is now over)

So it is indeed a free card and not those "promo packages" like those you see in IT shows such as PC Shows where a freebie has been thrown in to the "package".

ahhh.. interesting! But what's the pricing on the camera then? If its the usual best price as you mentioned then it's worth it but then I doubt it might be that wat since marketing ployz are always involved. hehe

Maybe anyone who was eligible for the promotion share the prices? I'm sure in that way can help the thread starter too.

It is not a marketing ploy because the free gift is given by Canon and not bundled by the shops - I believe Canon is rich enough to give some free 128 MB CF cards and promote sales of their digicams - after all it's only for a short period of around 2-3 weeks late last year

My friend wanted to get a G5 cos of this promo and to beat the 1% GST - but couldn't raise enough moolah in time to get the G5 from Alan Photo at $1120

kekeke.... it wouldn't be a ploy if we knew it what. Thats y must find those who made it for the promotion to 'check out' the prices coz i never believe in free things for no reason.

Hey, it may be a good thing for your fren what, got so many new cameras. wakakaka.......

Canon's CF card IS free 'cos no matter which shop you get it from, you still go to Canon to claim the CF card. Doesn't matter if you bought the camera from Alan Photo at $600 or Best Denki at $700, you still get the free CF card.

I know what you mean, I've seen such "free" offers before. I was given a quote for this Kodak digicam from Cathay Photo. $630. The same model was quoted by MS Colour as $699 with "free" CF card & tripod. So in this case, the "free" gift was obviously not free.

But in Canon's case it was really free.

obviously they will claimed theirs which will required to produced both receipt and warranty card, therefore, I only need the receipt which in my case, I produced my own warranty card, cos Canon accept only both receipt & warranty for claiming this free 128MB CF, before 4th Feb 04. As we all know, the serial no for warranty card is printed on it, therefore, it will just ID that such as set has claimed it while the receipt is just the proof of date purchased within their promotions.
