Has anyone used Sigma 100-300 F4 EX IF HSM with 300D OR 10D. How is the performance with and without 1.4X TC. How much this lens cost ?
Appreciate feedback from any users. |

Constant length lens, quick HSM focusing and a nice constant F4 aperture for the focal length it gives makes it a value for money buy. I had the pleasure of shooting with this lens, plus a Tamron 1.4x teleconvertor, giving an effective 140-420mm/F5.6 range. The size of this lens in stowed position (ie hood reversed) is only a touch longer than a 70-200mm 2.8 lens I also carried.
It is formidably heavy, and almost mandates the use of a monopod for support. As quick as the HSM motor is, I wished for a focus range limiter switch like Canon has; often, in AI Servo mode, after losing focusing, it cycles all the way in, then out, and the moment is thus lost. Otherwise a very nice piece of glass, a good alternative to the L-series of lenses, it seems that Canon does not have an equivalent lens, and its still pretty usable even with the addition of a teleconvertor. If you don't have a telephoto lens, in this range, and are on a budget (if you can consider left and right of $1200 being on a budget!) then its pretty good value for what you pay. I'll post some samples soon, hopefully. |

Hi Bluestrike and r32 thanks for your valueable feedback.
I have few more quations hope you guys don't mind. What abt focusing accuracy and speed ? How would you guys compare this to a 70-200 F2.8 with a 2x TC, That comes to 140 - 400 F5.6 ? I'm thinking of getting this for bird photography. With a 1.4x + 1.6x cropping factor I can get close to 670mm which I believe is sufficient. r32 waiting for your sample images, thanks again. |

I realized that as I'm currently using Pro90 + TCON-17, abt 620mm.
But this is a good starting point for me. Already streched my budget way beyond ( and saving every month now ).What abt Sigma 50-500mm ? The reviews are good But seems very heavy Just saw Sigma came -up with 80-400 with OS. |
