If u're using 10D, i think 128mb CF is grossly undersized. so 1stly, go get a 1GB.
2nd, dun worry, japan is not considered as cold rite now, even if u go hokkaido, temperature only reach -15 degree at most. of coz, if u visit northern hokkaido to see ice floe, -30 is reachable. but 10D can handle tht. u just hv to bring extra batteries. have 4 batts, 2 in use, 2 in reserve is the minimum. yes, airport screening will affect your 10D if u let them throw your luggage, but usually, lens will go first, 10D is more hardy. get a proper camera bag. good place to shop is tokyo electronic street. lots of camera shops there. most camera stuff, esp. digital ones are cheaper there. but take note, charger is different and of coz, u only get hardcopy of japanese manual. lens is more expensive there though. suggestion, go there and get your CF card, shd be cheaper, i'll put some of the big store website here later on. |

Just my general opinion.
1. Get 1GB or bigger CF card (you know much storage you need )and extra batteries. I think for 1 week that should be OK. A used notebook is (maybe) more usefull than those ext storage devices. 2. Hand carry your camera. Based my personal experience it's very risky to check-in expensive equipments, no matter which airline. 3. Camera (as any electronics) are safe to pass through the X-ray scanner. Well, nothing happen to my camera so far. 4. Generally things abit (alot sometimes) expensive in Japana than here. Don't understand why eventhough it's manufactured there. |

Additonal info,
3. You can ask them to hand-check your camera equipment. most airport dun hv problem wif tht. but dun need lar, save soem trouble and put it thru scanner. 4. Generally true except for prosumer digital camera especially Sony. Quite a bit cheaper there for new models. u can buy there & sell here (as new) and earn the difference. downside is u get 120v charger & jap manual. of coz if u're interested in plasma and LCD tv, its quite cheaper there too, downside is transportation fee and 120v electrical point. |

I would recommend a 512MB with ur 128MB. When u are going to finish up ur cards (512+128=640MB), go to a photo developing shop and ask them to burn a CD. That is what i did in a 20 day trip to Taiwan. Each Cd cost abour 3-4 dollars. The good thing is that the CD will contain my RAW files as future archive purpose. |
