Question Need opinions of telephoto zoom lens for canon

Looking at the either 70-200mm or 80-200mm

So far the popular ones are:
1) EF70-200 F4L
2) Tokina ATX 80-200 F2.8
3) Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 EX APO IF HSM

Amongst all these, I guess the canon lens is the most ex, but is it still a good buy compared to the others?

from past experience: tokina lens + canon body has one drawback: the AF will feel like scratching nails on blackboard. however all else will be ok.

Was looking at similar range & lenses as well...
So far the Canon & Sigma one rating is quite good. http://www.photozone.de/bindex2.html

Pls note that canon 70-200, f4 does not comes with a triport collar, and will have to be special ordered (about S$200). Hence it is more expensive than the other 2 lens. But the resale value is there.

My friend went through the ordeal of hunting for the collar, but was very lucky to have found one through my other friend.

The Sigma lens is heavier than the Canon lens, you might want to take that into consideration. Don't end up selling the lens in a month or two due to its weight (like those guys selling their 70-200, f2.8, IS).

Optical wise, if you use f4 or f8 with the Sigma lens, the MTF rating is very closely match with Canon lens.

Never use the Tokina, so can't say much.

the F4 L is still light enough to go without a collar. That is why its not included.

item 1 is F4 so cannot compare with item 2 and 3.

Item 2 is 80mm while item 3 is 70mm so also not a very good comparison.

hehe.......

70-200L IS?

why not search the forum. I'm sure you'll get alot of talk on these lenses

Cant agree on that, needs to be triport mounted when taking night shots.

kekeke... u have a weird fren indeed.

Anyway its hard to get a tripod collar for the F4L, so its either to go for a compatible or to spend some good money sourcing for it
