Prism turning blue

Heard of this before? Know what i means and imply? i went to minolta to get my lens and body a quick check few days ago and this was what i was told. Was told i can still use it till my picture turn out focus. So far everything is ok. The cost of changing the prism is $150. Should i change a body soon?!

honestly, I've never heard of prism turning blue. Even users of decades old cameras never mentioned anything about this.

Experience users may enlighten us on this.

hee hee... weird right... i using dynax 505si, been with me since late 1999. hope someone can enlighten me. am going for a trip soon so finger cross, so far so good (jus tested with negatives). little paranoid though...

$150 to change the prism on 505 is not too economical to me..

Have you checked with Minolta?

yeah that's what i thought too. well, that's the price minolta quote me. mmm.. what you meant by check with them? from what i gather, my picture should eventually turn out focus some day. And that's the time i decide to throw it away or change the prism. i will try to get hold of andy to understand more the next time pop by...

if anyone can enlighten me in the meanwhile, i'll be very grateful.

ultimately, whether the prism is blue or not doesn't matter because the prism doesn't contribute to the image which will shine on the film. Just think: light from subject goes through from lens to open shutter to incident on negative. It doesn't go through any prism at all.

Image from view finder nonetheless will appear blue (if what you say is what it actually is happening) and will be quite disturbing. This is also likely to affect the resale value of your camera. However, if you are planning to keep using your camera anyway and want to save the $$, I don't see the urgency to replace your prism.

So far everything looks fine with me, including the view finder (jus bit of scratches). I'm not changing until something bad happens.
