Default Compressing Picture file

Hi,

Like to check with you guys/gals. Which size do you normally compressed your picture file so that the picture quality is still reasonably good/acceptable? On top of that, which software do you used to compress the picture? I am using a A70.

Thank you.

That totally depends on what you'll be using the image for. Before you even start considering compression, you first need to decide what resolution to use (eg. 640 x 480, 800 x 600, original size etc.) Then decide how big a file size you can live with - eg. for web, I usually try to keep my JPGs to 50k max - there is some loss of quality here, but not usually that noticeable.

The software I use is PhotoShop (ie. saving as JPG) - when saving for web I use Image Ready.
If transmitting your files via email, you can try zipping them (after save as JPG). You may get 5-10% compression on top of the JPG (if you're lucky).
