sorry ... finally found this piece of info which explains AEL ... for those who wants to know (or am I the only one?) ...

This is a quick way to lock the exposure while shooting, you have probably noticed how the exposure changes wile you move your camera to compose a picture. Press the AEL button to lock the exposure. You can take as many pictures as you like with the same exposure, as long as you keep the AEL pressed.

Auto Exposure Lock (AEL)

Say you are shooting a person with a strongly lighted background, the result would normaly be that the person would become dark, because the camera naturally will try to expose the background correctly. Zoom in to the face of the person, let it fill the picture frame, then press the AEL, zoom back out and take the picture. The expsure is now locked to the correct exposure for the persons face. It will be that way for as long as you keep pressing the AEL button.
You are free to reompose and work your picture.

The AEL is a very handy and useful feature, it have been part of modern cameras since the first cameras with "Auto Exposure". I highly recomend playing with it, because like all features, they only works when you know how they work and use them.

Note. The AEL do not lock the focus, if you want to capture a series of images whithout changing the focus, but generally prefer to use the automatic focus, point at the object, press the shutter half way down until you have focus lock, then flip the focus lever,on the left side of the camera, to manual focus. That is it, as long as you do not touch the focus ring you are fine. Remember that if you turn your camera off and back on, the camera will reset the focus and you will have to focus again.

i think no need to zoom in and out, just put the metering to 'spot' and point the target box at the point you want to meter.

oso you need AEL button for 'multi spot' metering. Each time you press the AEL button it will record a metered reading. can press up to eight times on different spots using the target box and the camera will compute the average.

oso AEL button is use to erase the picture.

the manual in the cd is more in depth, should refer to dat insted of the stupid booklet.

but i must say even the cd manual oso quite badly written
the best is to do some hands on. Oly employs some weirdos to write the manual. maybe the same morons decide not to make the firmware update for non-DSLR downloadable from internet.
5050 is a good camera, but is the last exciting camera from Oly.
ok, can see 5060 users throwing virtual eggs at me....

yeah, maybe the manuals sux so bad, that they dun print it maybe there is a line somewhere in the softcopy that says 'print at your own risk'

agree that C5050 is a fine one ... if only they had built a bigger zoom for it
