    Default confused about using m42 on k20d

    just checked the previous posts and becomes confused. Can i use the av mode directly?

    yes, but you might have to dial in some positive EV compensation.

    You can use Av mode, but you have to adjust aperture by turning the aperture ring on the lens. You can't change aperture from your camera body.

    And of course the metering might not be exactly accurate as Darren said above. You need to put in some EV compensation so to achieve accurate exposure.

    Give it a try, it's very fun to use manual lens on modern digital SLR cameras

    what i do is focus with the lens wide-open, then stop down with the aperture ring for metering and taking the shot. i think have to set the lens switch to M, as A requires the little pin to be pressed and non-M42 bodies can't do that.

    with the K20D i found that if i stick some aluminium foil to short the electrical contacts on the body i don't need to EV comp so much, dunno why. but it's too troublesome and i'm too lazy
