Thread: Recycle batteries?

  1. #1

    Default Recycle batteries?

    Hi everyone,

I have 4 almost spoilt / spoilt GP NiMH batteries, thinking of recycle it.

Does anyone knows where I can recycle it? Google found US provide recycle service, but not sure about Sg... Is it advisable to just throw it into the dustbin?

My question seems funny, but I just try to be environment friendly

AFAIK, no agency collecting batteries for recycling at local.

You are way ahead of the local recycling movement.

With most batteries with 0 mercury now (at least 0 mercury added), the pressure to collect back old batteries is now reduced.

Have asked this same question before. The official answer is NO, there is no special procedure or collection points to pick up the spent batteries in Singapore.

Topic is really neglected. In other countries with more awareness you can find special bins in nearly every supermarket. Also, the yellow recycling bags can be used there to recycle batteries. Now I have a big bag of batteries at home (since I don't throw them in household waste).

maybe ask a friend who has a charger with "Refresh" function....be surprised how often it brings back batteries from the dead.

Good that you are thinking of recycling! I put mine on those yellow recycling bag collected from HDBs almost every two weeks. Don't know if it's the right place to put them though.

Thanks everyone for your input I'm always have a green mind and put it into action...

The metal 'contact' of the batteries is already very rusty. Might not be able to 'bring back to life'...

Actually I always throw non-rechargeable batteries into dustbin since it is stated no mercury...
But somehow, my weird sense have the feeling that rechargeable batteries might be able to recycled, sames as printer cartridge. ha ha

Anyway, will try the yellow recycling bag...

    Thanks again

to be very honest with you, since there are no local agencies taking batteries for recycling, and the batteries manufactures do not offer taking back batteries for recycling too, whether you put in whichever or whatever recycling bags or bins. it will still end up in dumping ground eventually.
