    Default Filter question - curious

I recently bought a tokina 62mm circ polarizer filter to try with my SAL 16105, and I noticed that at 16mm, vignetting occurs at the corners.

Wonder if this is normal ? And if I were to get the Sony 62mm CP filter, will the vignetting occurs too? (anyone tried it? though the website states it is slim design to prevent vignetting...)

    stop down.

    what apertures are you using?

Isn't this something to do with the thickness of the filter?

How thick is the sony one? I read somewhere there are some CPL that has rim of about 3mm but the 'normal' is maybe 5mm.

Aperture set at F/3.5 , vignetting occurs... did not try other aperture setting as I was testing it indoor (low light situation).

But at about 35mm focus length onwards vignetting is less visible.

I believe there are thin CPLs. I use a B+W one with the 16-35mm lens

as a rough guide, 18mm is where you might get such problems with vignetting.

i am a little confused by TS, and i'm not aware of the entire universe of filters, so i'm not sure if he got a slim one. a slim CPL shouldn't cause vignetting, but it depends on the lens actually.

stopping down will reduce vignetting. try it and see if it is reduced enough for your uses.. if not, go and buy a slim CPL, maybe get hoya. sony cpl, i don't know about the quality.

I don't use lenses with such wide angle.
But from what I know, for that focal length, get a thin filter.
