well I should say that's one purpose of the filter, to protect our beloved lens. I'm using hoya hd but i don't want to test it purposely
I shoot with my A7II . I shoot with my Kalashnikov AEG. I just love shooting ;)

Same thing happened to me in New York.

Went straight to B&H to buy a new one.

STOP WHINING..... if the filter/ lens cap had not been attached, you'd probably looking at more serious damage to the lens ........ the filter (and to certain extent the Lens cap) did their job and 'died' in the line of duty........ thank it and give it a respectful burial .........and get another filter

(Darned it..... I scratched my helmet after crashing my motorbike into a tree ha ha ha )

actually the front element is a lot harder than the filter. maybe nothing will be damaged if the filter is not attached.

I fixed it with gaffer tape and now the image is sharper.
It is the camera, not the photographer.

Little update, i brought it to CSC, they helped me remove the stuck filter and any dust free of charge. weee.

Lens seems to be working fine after a bit of testing

Wink Similar experience but on higher ground: Nothing Happen!

During a recent overseas travel, i was taking some photo on a hill, my Lowepro fastpack 100 haversack fell off a rocky ledge (few metres above), landed on and continued rolling down a steep rocky footpath. Fortunately i was holding the cam body, 2 telephoto lenses and several filters inside that bag were intact. Sometimes, it depends on how you pack your stuff and whether u secure the zip or velcro.

Sorry to be asking this but..
I'd like to be having the spoilt filter if the filter ring is totally undamaged together with the retaining ring for experimental purposes.
I do feel for the spoilt filter though..

^ i wanted to keep it too, but they had to break the ring to remove it. So it's gone now

Hoya has got a new series of filters called "HD" filters, supposedly indestructible. Maybe you'd like to check that out?
