Maybe frowning is his way of approving his photo's quality.

Why not try a different approach. Go to him and start a friendly conversation:

You: Hey I saw that you're taking some pictures of the class with a nice looking DSLR. How did the pictures turn out?
Him: Oh hi. Erm.. ok, but some of them look not very clear.
You: Ya it is hard to take pictures indoor. Normally if I get blur pictures I will try this technique. (And you show him how to do it).
You: Why don't you give it a try?
Him: (After taking a few shots). Hey that is indeed better, thank you very much bro!

Isn't that much better then posting his pic here showing everybody how bad he had done without his knowledge?
    fully agreed

    1) It's indoor, so the shutter speed is likely to be low. Every bit of stability helps, even though the camera has in-built stabilisation. Holding such a large weight so far away from the body can't be steady at all.
    2) I think he looks a bit silly holding a DSLR like that.
after a while, i stopped thinking that way because well, everyone has quirks. for all you know, despite holding like that, looking like idiot.. if his pictures are nice, well they are nice.

    #1 is definitely true though.

for #2, i don't exactly look very glam when shooting landscapes sometimes..

thank goodness there are no pictures of cat shootings.

Anyway, I saw him reviewing the photos on LCD and frowning, so I presume they weren't too sharp.
Bump into this thread recently, and saw a thread with a smart-aleck posting a pic making-fun of the subject.

    1) It's a photography forum, so making fun of fellow photographers is likely to be frown upon.

    2) I think you look more like a loser teasing and posting pics of others.

    What you are saying is....

As standing at the urinals it doesn't matter if some people hold it with left hand or right hand or both hands or just with a forefinger and the thumb as long as he can shoot straight?

that's a reservoir.. wait till you see the roaring waves in the uk coast.. and me knee deep in there with the tripod legs stuck in the sand underneath.. and trying to gauge when to remove the camera from the tripod to save it from getting splashed by waves.

there is a reason why i would never sell my tripods.. wait inside corrode until like don't know what.. then the poor buyer use it one day the legs come apart like they do for me sometimes.. then i get a thread started on how "senior members trying to cheat money ar!!!"

This is called "horse stance" in martial arts.

Horse stance is low and stable - rock steady, so can use low shutter speed.

This guy is using the physics of balancing. Notice that he is carrying a plastic with weight. It act as a stabiliser -better than any IS or VR or VC. Look at how his rear is protruding - it act as a counter balance. In this position, an ultimate steadiness is achieved and low shutter speed can be used. Perfect for landscape/product shooting.
