Default ewa housing feedback

has anyone used the ewa ziplock bag?
is it reliable? looks kinda flimsy for a 300 buck plastic bag.

A couple of my OZ friends have, The normal complaint that they have is that when the "package" is delivered to about 25 meters(or was it 15hmmm), the camera/housing is unusable, due to the partial pressure of air under 25 meters of water.

i.e. the Air inside the housing has compressed soo much that the "housing" is depressing the buttons by itself.

Another complaint would be it does not survive the school of hard knocks and bumps.

Hope that helped

I seriously considered an ewa marine bag to house a Fuji 602Z some time ago. I wanted to take it underwater for it's video capabilities. I went down to this FEG shop, who is supplying the ewa marine bags. After playing with one and trying to fit the camera in the bag, I found it to be not worth it compared to a system housed in a solid structure. It wasn't that putting a camera into a bag was necessarily a bad idea, but my feeling is that ewa-marine has not executed or designed their system terribly well. For example, the camera can shift around inside the bag, making handling of the camera, even on land, cumbersome. If I were to design the system, I would have made the bottom of the bag something solid and have the camera screwed onto a kind of solid base with the bag around the camera. That way you can mount your strobes to the base. The shutter release button, and accessing all the controls was another area of concern. Trying to turn knobs and press the shutter release was not easy due to the coarseness and thickness of the plastic. I think that the plastic around the buttons should be soft and easy to manipulate so that the photographer can control the camera better through the bag. Getting the camera in and out of the bag was cumbersome, especially if you connected a flash to it. I fed-back to ewa-marine on these issues and never heard from them.

My feeling is that if you are going to pay $300 for a plastic bag, it better be a pretty damn well designed bag, and the ewa-marine bag just wasn't.

agree. if you are really keen on uw photography, get a digital camera with compatible housing. spending 300 dollars and not getting quality shouldnt be the way, in my own opinion. i also wanted to buy the f602 before i got my c5050.. but changed my mind due to no housing... waisj! when are you going to let me play with your camera???
