The past week of turbulance and conflicts around me has caused some unplesant exchanges between me and some of the MODS and admin people. They know who I am and some of you may too(which IMO would amount to a breach of privacy because I requested my email to be made unknown to outsiders).
I am here for a reason, a personal one and that is to see how controversies can jolt a community and what kind of photography is prominent here. Im not an elitist by any measure and I like critiquing and at the same time enjoy what responses people come up with when dealt with severe criticism. I woulnd't say I was here to purposely damage the peace but I wanna know more why people react the way they did. You have seen me in action. In all honesty, what I have done so far had been honest as far as critiques goes. I may not be good with words but if you show me your works, I will give you an HONEST opinion. If I can help you out, I will, but don't judge me when I don't offer that asistance. I find this community amicable. Im happy to see a lot of support groups here. I think I like this place. It has influnced me to an extent that I felt my initial purpose to be here under another nick and acting weirdly is of no real purpose afterall. Having said that and hopefully come clean, you don't need to know who I am. Even if you do, keep it to yourselves. People who know me in person knows what kindda of a person I am. Net presence is atmost 80% accurate description of anyone. Take it from me or abandon me. Now, I need 5 votes from anyone in the forum. If 5 people decide I SHOULD GO AND NEVER COME BACK, I will. I'll leave this thread on for 2 days. Please be honest and if you think I m a nuisance, state so. TYPE "LEAVE" OR "STAY". 5 VOTES OF "LEAVE" AND i'LL BE OUT for good. Have a nice day and a wonderful photographic journey. regards, cash (or someone). |

So I will say this, stay if you will stop all the crap and just stick to photography (and perhaps learn to be tactful in future). Otherwise continue your journey someplace else. So which is it to be? ![]() |

i don't care who u think u are or watever u are or may be.
i think i know who u are along with several other contributors to this forum but that doesn't cut no ice with us. while i do not doubt ur intention and i have to agree that most people are merely 'gearheads' but i would prefer u to leave constructive comments on various photographic issues instead of just being overly brutal and totally offensive of which these 'comments' are just useless and unacademically helpful to anyone or the thread starter. just be more constructive in ur comments instead of, 'u'll go far' (of which i personally loathe), 'i don't see anything' (u'll have to say why the photo doesn't work), ETC, ETC. surely a veteran(if u're one) photographer(who comes from the old school)can do more than that?

you are not good with words???? awww....come on, that's an understatement. Your words have already killed a few poor souls out there.
Hope you had fun doing what you did. yes, i must agree, that you did have substance in some of the comments and constructive feedback you have given. You do have a way with words and are sometimes funny how you are able to make people feel stupid. To me, playing with people's feelings (in either way) is not my idea of fun. Yes, there were people who hated you and others who tried to reason out things to make the situation better. All in all, it took up a lot of our time. you think we will still be amused by your confession after having wasted our precious time and having our feelings messed up? (just to help you with your personal social studies experiment?) As to the question of whether you should STAY or TANGO AWAY..... i shall not answer as i will just be contributing to your popularity votes (is this another manipulation????) darn! - i just wasted my precious time with you again by replying to this!!!!! ![]() Last edited by swimcraze; 4th February 2004 at 12:24 PM. |

I think deliberately provoking people to anger in order to study their responses ranks right up there with Nazi medical experiments and exposing your right breast in front of 80 million people. It's cruel and silly. More than that, it's cowardly, because it's done anonymously over the internet. You want a real experiment? Do that face to face on Orchard Road. Then maybe you'll get my respect. Contrary to what you said, I believe you came here expressly to disturb the peace.
Let me share a personal experience with you. Some time ago in Offstone I started posting pictures to share. A certain character named Polarbear made mean, unconstructive one-liner comments about my pictures. I suspect he was jealous of me or something, fancying himself as somewhat of a street photographer himself. I had a look at some of the pictures HE had posted, and I thought that they were not very good. In any case, being the non-confrontational sort, rather than defend myself or rant back at him, I simply left Offstone. Sometime later I chanced upon some controversy raging in Offstone. This Polarbear character had commented that someone's picture (which I personally thought was pretty good) was "just a snapshot." That person had risen to his own defence, and most of the other members of Offstone basically supported him. I joined the discussion, mentioning to Lance (the originator of Offstone) that I had left the forum because of Polarbear. The reason I gave was that he had been rude in his critiques, and that I did not think he had enough artistic credentials to be critiquing my work in the first place. Man, you should have seen what happened next. Polarbear went ballistic, making an utter fool of himself in the process, ranting and raving and sputtering threats and curses, accusing me of calling his pictures crap. At the end of the day, however, he eventually toned down quite a bit in Offstone, and we even became cordial with each other. His photography improved, and I even began complimenting him on some of his shots. I learned a lot about B&W development from him (still use his HC-110 technique) and met up with him to collect bulk film, which he manages to get quite cheap. You could even say we're friends, even if he is still a bit of an irascible character. What's the lesson to learn from my little story? 1. There's no need to be rude or provocative. You already know how people will respond to you if you're like that (unless you've been living on a desert island all your life). What's the point of doing this "social experiment", unless you secretly enjoy pissing people off? 2. You can walk away from an argument if you want to. (Rest of CS members, please take note). 3. You make a fool of yourself if you try to "get back" at someone who has made a disparaging comment about your picture. (Rest of CS members, please take note also). 4. We can still be friends at the end of the day. The internet is a big place. You can always come back with another nickname. NETS, VISA or Mastercard. But no cash, please. |
