Don't worry, you won't be the only beginner there

Just quickly adjust. The first few shots usually the nicer ones though, because less smoke.

You might want to include the christmas tree or people, etc. So you have to go find the angle you like. (=

The bigger ones yes, the smaller ones partially blocked by vegetation.

Bros who had shot fireworks before previously at vivocity. Based on ur experience, is it better to shot with a wide angle or mid range zoom? Say if shoot from the sky garden? first time shooting fireworks here too!

bro, If you are from the sky garden, i think it's considered rather near already. ur 17-35 on d700 should be more than enough.

Seniors out dere, correct me if i m wrong it's primary usage is to act as an 2nd shutter, to cut dwn on overexposure for long exposure shots (esp bulb). And the use of the black card is to capture multiple sets of fireworks into one image.

I have scouted Mt Faber and found that most angles are being blocked by trees. The only place might be at a restaurant and not sure they will allow camera and tripod.

What other places are good to camp?

Actually what I was told was that the black card is used as a delayed opening of the shutter, because after the mechanical shutter of the camera is opened, there is bound to be a small amount of vibration that would tend to affect the sharpness of the photo.

Anyway, I'm just curious, if I take from the Vivo rooftop, will the ugly cranes or whatever construction lights over at Sentosa be a distraction in the photo? Perhaps someone who went last year could advise on this.

    Thanks

Can stand further back so that there are people or architecture or the huge tree is in the frame, then no construction site lor.

1st time shooting fireworks too. with my new GF1.

asking some pro here, is the pancake lens 20mm f1.7 ideal for fireworks? It's bright and fast but if I delay the shutter speed manually to get flare trails effect, will it over-expose?

    Thanks in advance =)

20mm x 2 = 40mm. might not be wide enough. you need to close down the aperture. 1.7 with trails will definitely overexpose as the burst is very bright.

i also experimenting, only know the theory from tutorials.

but the black card might not be very useful as the main purpose is to stack multiple fireworks into 1 picture. if the vivocity fireworks is choreographed by pros, most probably the fireworks should be quite complex already, so no need to add more.

    for me,

    i shoot in bulb mode.
    F8-12 depending on background.
    iso 100.

once i see the stuff being launched i press the shutter down till i see it explode then release..
more or less based on what i want to capture then when i will release the shutter
