I am going to gaffer it with this . It is going to be so pretty that it BOOMZ!

I just got it so have not really started using it. This is a test shot that I took close up (not macro). The focus is on the eyes of teddy. Taken at f2.5. This lens is just so smooth. turning the focus ring is smooth, the colour rendered is so smooth, the transition between shadow and highlight is so smooth, the bokeh is so smooth. This lens is a smooth operator.
The lens is calling out to you now, " hush, hush, hurry, hurry come to me. You got to take me home "

There was only one other lens that gave me a similar feel good when I touched and used it - the Contax Carl Zeiss 85mm 1.4, but the Voight is vastly superior is so many ways.

The best thing about this lens is... its true apochromatic lens, no colour shift on front and back of the focus point, high resolution and very low distortion.

The 85/1.4 is a great lens for portrait. I have yet to handle the Contax CZ 100/2. I read that it is even better than the 85/1.4. Other than the 35/1.4 and 100/2, these CZ are going to be available in ZE. So is more or less end of life. I would go for the Leicas Summis. Well built, small, great performance and you are not going to get them anymore.

I wonder if the yet to be release EF Ultron SLII 40/2 will be just as wonderful a darling as its older and bigger brother.

Also no light fall off on FF, sharp edge performance, long focusing throw for accurate focusing (almost 720 degree turn from 0.3 to infinity), lighter than all other macro at 100mm range, etc...the list goes on....Ooo....I have had another orgasm.. Having this Voigt is more effective than the little blue pill Viagra.

    And practically NO CA!!!

The Voight was rated to be on par with the performance of what is acknowledged as THE best 100mm (range) macro lens in the world - the Leitz Makro 100. THAT baby goes for about US$4K used in mint condition, but prices may vary as there is rady supply of the Leitz.

Are you talking about Leica Elmarit 100/2.8 or CZ Makro-Planar 100/2? I thought long and hard about these plus the Contax N Makro and the EF100L and eventually settle with the Voigt.

The former 2 does not come in EF mount (not yet for the planar). While though the latter 2 comes with AF, the Contax N requires mount conversion. I got the Voigt as it is sort of 100L + 135L . of course you don't have the AF and HIS stuff but I am expecting the voigt to outlast electronics' lifespan of 3-5 years.

    The APO Leitz one: http://en.leica-camera.com/photograp...nses/3809.html

I expect the CYCZ 100 2.8 makro to be very good as well, but I wonder if it also has the dreaded ninja star bokeh? Didn't know there was an N version. The Cosina made CZ 100 f/2 makro is impressive, but it suffers from CA. I hear that it can be a problem as it may be impossible to remove. http://vahonen.com/photo/equipment/lenses/Zeiss100F2.0/

Is the 100L performance close to or better than the normal EF 100 macro? If it is, then it's in a different class from all the above, but unless one is doing 1:1 a lot, I hear that the HIS can be very handy.

A classic and beautiful lens. Now I am going to gaffer it.

    Wahhhh!
I've got the EF mount one.
Was contemplating selling it to fund other things but after seeing this...
Think I still can't bear to part with this baby.

ManWearPants, I think this lens takes your pants off!
Better wear extra hawt peenk beekeenee when using it!

OK, so I decided to keep it already lah... Not selling my Voigtlander.
I'm thinking not to buy a telezoom but to use this as my tele lens.
Does anyone know if it can take a TC and what types?

So how is it? Any reviews for the Boomz gaffer?
I am going to gaffer all my equipment with plain old gaffer and make them look as old and ugly as possible so thieves and robbers would not be so interested when I am travelling.

I have both the Leica Apo 100mm f2.8 and Voigtlander 125mm, if the Leica is 99/100, the Voigtlander can be 97/100.

The Contax Carl Zeiss is not a very sharp at f1.4, will be better if stop down 1 stop, the Contax 85mm F1.2 is a much better lens for potrait, very detail even at f1.2.

Don't sell. Not even for 3K!

The performance of this lens is so stupendous that nothing below the price of the Leitz macro comes close. Of course, some who sear by other macro lenses may say we're romanticizing, but oh well, the results speak for themselves.

IF you really want to see what this lens is capable of, shoot it on a 1DS MKIII or 5D MkII and print the files up to say a few meters. Then compare it with files of the same exact scene from a medium format digital or a large format trans. I'm not saying they will be the same, but I think you'll be surprised.

No it's not, but at 1.8 - 2, it's sharp enough to be quite scary (for me anyway). I've heard a pro compare say that the EF 85 1.8 is the sharpest of the lot.

The main drawback of the CYCZ 1.2 version or at least the anniversary version which regularly goes for USD5K is that it suffers from the dreaded Ninja Star bokeh. At least the sample I've seen does. I'm not sure if all versions or samples do.

Oh Time Machine, I would love to try your Leitz 100 APO macro sometime!

Aiyah... regret I didn't buy more of this lens when it was selling for less than $1k. Haha.

I know, I can zoom many times into the small details and they would still be sharp and detailed!

So anyone knows if it can be compatible with any TC?

It's quite embarrassing really ... but this is the only time I really go gaa-gaa over a piece of equipment.

While I love Rodenstocks and Schneiders (along with the rare Nikkors and excellent Fujinons, Zuikos and CYCZ) pretty much in that order, I've never really gone gaa-gaa over a lense before. OK, except perhaps over the imperfect but oh-so-lovable Contax 85mm 1.4.

Compatible as in will work (electronic focus confirm may not), most TCs will work, but the key is to find out which performs optimally with it.

I would suggest the Canon MkII originals, Sigma's APO and the Kenko digital PRO. It's a pity that double adapting a Contax Mutar I might be quite unsatisfactory as that converter is said to be the finest by manual lens affectionardos.

I used it with a kenko 1.4xTC. No problem at all. You get 1.4x magnification and best part, the camera still allow aperture at f2.5.

Unfortunately the Leica APO needs to be adapted. This makes it lose a point each on
    1) loss of exif
    2) focus distance marking on lens not accurate

So after point deduction, it is a draw at 97 a piece.
