That's the way we are brought up ... meritocracy. Speak louder, asking questions even if it is stupid, critical because conforming is uncool.... etc

Been on the net since late 1980's during the usenet years. Have seen many generations of newbies turn into experts, some who despise newbies, some who help newbies, both young and old.

You make your choice, other choose the way they want (each based on their own beliefs, upbringing, etc etc). Is it any different with photography? For me, its "Live and let live", "teach and learn"....

young to me... 16 years old.

thrash talks... saying some old guys only have gear but no skill.

act like he knows everything... saying to people (much older than him, people who's shot pics for 10-20 years when he just picked up a camera for a month), you should do this, do that, shoot more when he himself hasn't got much pics. then say stuff like why do we need white balance, all we need to do is shoot and be done with it.

i feel that it's OK to be a newb, just don't be disrespectful and learn from the ground up. mind you, i didn't just thrash him only because he's a noob. he annoys me because of his disrespectful behavior. and that coming from a noob doesn't make things better

    1. they show no understanding in any of the technical terms and it is evident in the amount of time spent.
    2. perform badly and it shows in their performance/work.

it's okay to be a newbie, everyone will have their first time. but it's bad that you're a newbie with a big ego that is. i think whatever you're learning, you've got to leave your ego at the door.

and this boy thrash talk about ppl who's got years of experience and many evidence to back them up. also, this boy attacks many other ppl personally whom i respect in terms of skill and experience when he's got nothing...

anyway, i just ignore that boy... can't be bothered. still young and have lots to learn in life. let someone else deal with him. it's annoying but i'll let someone else do the job. yes, i call him a boy as he's still young. that's why i sorta give chance. every young kid makes mistake. just unpleasant to hear when a young boy like that attacks someone senior (even more senior than i am).

haha... btw, im not a pro. i'm just a hobbyist. i'm sure you are too.
hee. say this earlier ma. the term 'newbie' is just too general.
aiya.. smtimz i feel that being young is a great excuse to justify one's tactlessness. just treat it like as if you're talking to your little brother. usually guys have huge ego (omg i'm sounding damn sexist haha forgive me), and apparently a boy cant seem to exude control over his ego well as he's still young (but sometimes, even adults have huge ass ego)

if he's in your msn, block him.
if he calls you, bar his number.
if you know him reality, just walk away.

regarding the pros part.. ya its kinda irritating. ( i dont like it when ppl insult my photography idols also, but what to do leh )
but then again, to each its own.
one man's meat may be another man's poison.

yes im a hobbyist, but im damn sure your photography skills is much better than mine hee
True freedom may be having somewhere to return to.

imac08, what if this does not involve photography? but some other activity which may injure himself or others due to his ego?
