Thread: L Plate FTW?

    Default L Plate FTW?

I've been contemplating whether to get an L plate or stick with a normal plate when i go and get my new tripod head. In particular the RRS one to be used with a Markins Q3.

How useful is the L plate when taking panoramas in a vertical position?
I understand no one has brought in RRS sTufF (hmm.. wonder why) so i would have to order from overseas... anyone know where I can get L plates locally?

Any thoughts on this bros and sistas?

RRS only deal directly via their online website. They do not have dealers.

Your other option will be to look for 2nd L-Plate in the B&S section. Which camera model are you looking for? You might have better luck with older and more popular models. I sold my Canon 40D L-Plate when I change camera a while ago.

Several advantages when using tripod and L-Plate:

[1] Framing will not be affected when going from Landscape to portrait position. If you are familiar with tripod's ball head, if you use normal plate, for portrait position, you will have to drop the camera to the notch of the ball head and therefore you have to reframe your shot.
[2] I use Canon hand strap E-1 without battery grip. The L-Plate has a loop for me to loop the E-1 strap through.
[3] all the advantages of using an Acra-Swiss system but that is not only restricted to using L-Plate

If you are willing to look at similar L plates of other brands, you can check OP. I saw quite a few there.
