Thumbs up for SLR Revo pricing. Their pricing is low, and it gives you what you need. Want more, add a little bit more. V reasonable.

Another thumbs up for SLR Revolution. I went there after work today to check out the Nissin Di622 and Di866. Although it was almost their closing time, their sales manager, Jason, still waited patiently while I fiddled around with both units on their D5000 and even accepted my request to let me test the flashes with a longer lens. Really impressed with his easy-going non-intrusive salesmanship. In the end I went back with the Di866. Thanks!

u can yak alot here.... the proof is in the pudding....

i started this posting abt this new shop and there are quite many forum users already have good experience with it.

I'm in no relation with this new shop nor do i earn any anything from them. I'm just a beginner

we all know how these "famous" shops treat customers every now and then......

The world is ever changing. If old businesses dun catch up and change with times, very soon they will be out of the race.... it's a cruel fact of life....

New businesses can easily match prices and knowledge of product.... its the other "X" factors that keeps the business going....

imho, there can 2 types of camera shop, generally. these 2 business models reflect 2 ways of managing retail sector.

    Camera shop TYPE A
Type A shop focus is on (i) selling goods and (ii) short term profit margin. Their only concern is to "move" stock. The main variables they tweak/adjust to "move" stock is price and freebies.

Type A do not prioritise customer service. If they like your face, they will help abit more. They will never bend over backwards.

Type A target audience are mainly pros. Pros that have product knowledge. Pros who know what they want. Such pros make their decision based on price. Type A camera shop only have to ensure (i) they got the right stock that the pro want; and (ii) their price is lower enough for the pro to bite.

    Camera shop TYPE B
Type B camera shop focus on (i) sustainable long-term profit margin; and (ii) cultivating relationship with customer. The main variable to tweak/adjust is customer service and creating relationship. How to leave behind impression, and the "come back again" message.

Type B give priority to customer service. They will bend over backwards if they believe you are their correct target audience.

Type B target audience are mainly amateurs, who have product knowledge, but not enough to be independent decision makers. Such customers make their decision in reliance on "tips" from camera shop based on "relationship". The ideal target audience that comprise this kind of customers are the busy professional type that work based on "relationship" in their respective fields - doctor, lawyer, banker, celebrity. The 2 key words here are "busy" and "relationship". These customers are too busy with their professional work to read websites like Mr Rockwell, so they rely (to a certain extent) on their relationship to make decisions.

Type B usually is more expensive than Type A, or got less freebies.

    SINGAPORE CONTEXT
In Singapore, I personally find more camera shops that are primarily Type A. Of course, there are hybrids, and sometimes they vary based on employees.

Therefore, when comparing camera shops, i think its necessary when making comparison to understand some shops focus on "moving" stock, whilst other shops focus on "relationship".

this is why you see in certain camera shops, the salesman can keep talking non-stop to a customer, despite there being a huge queue. In fact, it seems the queue itself is an advertisement of its sales philosophy. In other camera shops, a queue is deemed undesirable because a queue means stock "moves" slowly.

the above is personal opinion only, btw.

People needs to have open mind. If the shop can provide good service and competitive price, then I think it is always a plus to consumers like us. Even if we don't patronize them but it will keep the other shops on their toe. At the end, the consumers win.

New shops come and go and people will know a good shop when they see one. Of course, no shop can meets all customers expectation and at times some will have issue with a particular salesman's attitude. Give it some time and we will have a clearer picture of this shop.

Maybe somebody related to SLR Revolution is creating awareness for themselves here?
    or
Maybe SLR Revolution wanted to be in the list of the reputable shops in near future?

We shall see how tis shop earn its name to the top list. haa

By the way, shall we remove Funan AP name frm reputable shop? It always give me a feeling tat if i dun wan to buy, they will kill me... i hate it. And I'll nv nv nv visit tis shop again.

I will disagree with removing AP Funan from the list. Despite the poor service, it doesnt attempt to trick you into buying unnecessary accessories at an extremely high price, and that the price is quite reasonable for products you require. They are not like B photo, or S Bro. They will still qualify as reputable shop, but just that many do not have a good experience with them.

As for SLR Revo, I'll say we observe the shop for a while more, and see if they earn their place in the list. I hope they do. I am a satisfied customer of that shop.

I am a newbie to DSLR and have been reading a fair bit. I have already made up my mind to get myself a D90, and thru CS reviews, I went to the reputable shops in Funan. I started roaming from basement till the last level. The general attitude that the pro shops (which I'm not going to name) gave me wasn't really satisfying and they were not keen to do build relationships. They were either too busy to entertain me or simply gave me a 'I've given you my quote already, either you buy or f*** off' attitude.

Just when i was about to gave up and decided on HN (talked to this sales guy Tony) as he presented to me a sincere and willing to go extra mile attitude (in fact, it was the cheapest among the pro shops I've enquire so far), I chanced upon this SLR revolution. Initially was quite hesitant to go in as the presentation of the shop appears to be those 'tout' shops along Orchard Road, but decided to go in since I'm here.

The price Jason quoted me for my D90 and other accessories wasjaw dropping. I couldn't find any other shops that can match these prices. His attitude was very sincere and customer orientated. This is by far, the only pro shop, that i have experienced this nice feeling of relationship building. This Jason is very patient and explains to me all the questions a newbie can asked! That is even though I have told him upfront that I'm here to ask for a quotation and not to buy a camera today! He is never pushy about sales even though I asked him the rest of accessories like SB600, 50mm f1.8, tripods and stuff. The final litmus test was I walked off and thank him for the time and I am not getting anything today. He is not disappointed at all and in fact he knows he has make another friend.

Eventually, after 2 cigarettes, i went back to him and i know not only they have the best price but they have matching attitudes with the shop directly opposite them. What further impressed me was after testing my new gear and couple of more newbie questions, Jason not only did not push for more sales but advised me NOT TO BUY the rest of the accessories that I had enquire earlier for now. This is because I should go out and enjoy shooting first and thereafter ascertain the right stuff before going back to him. Now this is really sincere and customer relationship building.

I hope that SLR Revolution would continue to stay this way and earned their reputation. I walked away as a very satisfied customer. (I'm not related to them in anyway)

I supposed so from the post. It is alone by the side of the escalator.

Bought the D90 kit set at slight lower than $1630. It is a whopping $120 difference from the shop opposite SLR Revolution. Haha.

No frills set, i.e. no freebies. If works for me as I have plans for a ScanDisk Ultra II card and no one is offering this particular card as a freebie! The savings I've got goes into a nice 8GB SD Ultra II card.

is it open on Sunday as well?

John316 is not bad lah....juz started out on DSLR and bot my first DSLR there...weekday evenings not so crowded.....Saturdays are really bad.... i must say that the sales personnel got good memory...after 6 months+, they still remember i bought something from them (they got the brand right model wrong though)..quite impressive considering the no of customers in their shop daily..

... but the shop opposite is not known for its price, rather for its service , altho too much multitasking for my liking. Its been known to be less competitive compared to MS and sometimes even CP

even if that person related to SLR revolution is creating awareness, he cant get all this positive reps coming from him unless the services rendered by that shop is doing this "awareness" justice.

I had an encounter with Jason yesterday evening, that made me felt so bad to trouble him running around half of funan for me.

and I am definitely a person who appreciates customer service. their services, is something that i greatly appreciate, and will definitely revisit them in future. unlike certain "reputed shops" here. i cant even be bothered to suggest them to my friends, cos they simply ignored me when i walked into the shops in berms and singlet.

made me think: "what, i cannot afford to pay for things isst."
Fast Camera. Fast Lens. Slow Me. Sigh.
