Default Scanning negatives on Epson V700

Hi guys,

i recently purchased an epson v700 to scan my negatives (99% B&W).
i am curious to know what sort of software you guys use with the scanner.
adobe elements, epson scan, silverfast, vuescan or any other 3rd party software.
and what sort of settings you guys use. like with epson scan, there is a choice of using digital ice..
i also find myself getting lots of dust particles on the scanner..
i read online that buying canned air helps to blow off the dust from the scanner and the negatives. this is definitely one of the methods to remove dust from the negative and the scanner. but i was also wondering what other methods you guys use.
so if you could please shed some light on this issue it would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Mikhail

I use vuescan. Digital Ice won't work with BW, so I use a rocket blower to minimise dust.

V750 here, ended up using the Epson software after trying out elements & vuescan.
Using canned air too to keep the surface clean.

yeah im also using the epson software too.
i prefer it to vuescan because it automatically crops the photos for you which i find a real time saver! plus the canned air works great for dust removal.

so any setting you guys normally applied when doin film scan?
i bought a v600 2 days ago. tried my negative and slide scanned.
the result is not good at all. colour fade compare with my previous lab scanned.
and i noticed my scanned file size is very small. beside the dpi value, what else can we set to improve the scanned quality? also wat kind of tone/histogram/curve settin to be done for negative and slide scan?

is sad to see, after spendin a 400 dollar for this scanner but result worse than those photo lab 4 based scan. please help. thank you very much.

Set it to professional, that'll give you access to all the settings. Remove the "Medium" USM, and do it yourself later to your taste.
If you want to crank up the saturation, you can do it during scanning or in pp, I don't think there should be much difference. All the funky backlight correction, ICE, dust removal etc tend to screw up the results for me on top of considerably lengthening the scanning time. That said YMMV of course, so try away and see what you like.
Playing with the tonal range and the curves should also help you get better results, although I find the SW auto-exposure is generally about right and needs little correction.

Hi there, sorry to hijack this thread, but where can i get a Epson v750 in Singapore? Price range? My V500 does terrible scans and colours are often inaccurate, i have tried using vuescan and the bundled epson scan and both did not live up to my expectations. Even the lab can produce better scans.
