Default Things to know when you are travelling to Singapore

Just something for our friends who intend to come over to sunny Singapore

    Electricity
Singapore voltage is 220-240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second. On request, most hotels will provide transformers to visitors with electrical appliances of a different voltage, such as 110-120 volts, 60 cycles per second. When shopping for electrical appliances, do remember to check the voltage of the item against the acceptable voltage in your home country. The power plugs used in Singapore are of the three-pin, square-shaped type.

    Free Wi-Fi in Public Areas
Visitors can enjoy free wireless broadband access in Singapore by signing up for Wireless@SG, a broadband programme developed by the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) Singapore. Operated by three local wireless operators, users can enjoy free, both in-door and outdoor seamless wireless broadband access with speeds of up to 512kbps at most public areas. To connect to the Wireless@SG wireless broadband network, a user just needs a WiFi-enabled device, such as a laptop computer or a PDA, a web browser, and a registered Wireless@SG account. Users will also be able to roam within any of Wireless@SG's coverage areas, regardless of the operators' network.

Find out more about accessing the Wireless@SG network here.

    Telecommunication

if you are staying for a longer period, you can buy a prepaid SIM card and use a local line for your mobile

if you want to make a call back home, you can also buy cards that gives you cheaper IDD rates

easiest place to buy is from the convenience store, we have 2 main stores

    7-eleven and cheers

there is also a prepaid plan from M1 that is interesting
it is called the superpac plan see if it suits you

    Camera Equipment shopping?

    see our price guides

a list of shops that we normally buy from
    http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showp...08&postcount=7

be very careful when shopping at tourist trap areas, best is to buy from reputable shops

btw Sim Lim Square is only good if you know what you want to buy, there is no service
and normally only the computer related stuff are cheap as prices are rock bottom and displayed either on signs outside the shops or via flyers

singapore's water has very high cleanliness standards, but i think some overseas people (in particular those who guzzle bottled water) might find the chlorine taste a wee bit strong. just as a note.

One thing that always catches tourists/first-time visitors off-guard is to fill in the embarkation/disembarkation form IMM27A.

Always see tourists not filling it up.
