Default Is wide angle still useful when photo can be stitched?

Nowadays with stitching, it is easy to get panoramic photos. With photo stitching, it the photos are not taken from a point but along a line, there will be less distortion. So is wide angle still useful?

It would be troublesome to do masking when there are movements in the different pano frames like passing cars, trees, night exposure

Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah missed the non-panoramic use of wide-angle lens. Any other uses?

Perspective. A wide angle lens exaggerates distances and makes things look further away. The effect that the subject looks larger wrt background; Distances look longer; spaces look bigger.

Timing considerations. Imagine capturing a sunset which is changing by the seconds.

Wide-angles can be very useful when trying to exaggerate perspectives.

stitching is very troublesome. (to me at least)
on the field, need to take several photos. at home, need to do the stitching.

First you have to say how many mm is your wide angle taken in consideration. On a P&S the extra wide gives you ability to take group pictures within confined spaces.

16-18mm on 1.6x crop is not that wide. If you are thinking whether to keep say a 10-20mm lens, then I would say 10mm may be too wide.
