i liked the contrast between those who appear unconcerned (e.g. maid, younger sibling, other child at left) and the woman on the right, possibly a mother herself, who is glancing at the boy, and drawing attention to the main subject. this is a nice capture of human emotion and the varied reactions of others to it.
