A lie detector through web cam so that any insincere buyer or seller can be eradicated before they can post in b&s section. So many complaints nowadays.

Unfortunately, it's a brownie point system that doesn't pay in the long run unless it's a really good invention that prevents others from coming out with the same thing. So far, medicine and integrated electronics are something that the patent system works very well for. Other than that, there are always some ways to work around patents which makes the patent worthless. Some even patent textbook solutions or variations of them. I don't mind if that's done with the researcher's own pocket money but using taxpayers money to do that is something to be shunned. Usually the people who are handling and approving these patents do not know about the art themselves and just trust that these 'talents' know best. Of course, academics as these people are, they have their own interests and recognition at heart rather than the actual objective.

In the commercial industry, the company will not patent something unless it gives a commercial advantage.

Invent an alternative source of fuel that dosent add carbon to our atmosphere.

An alternative material that looks and feels as good as real wood but only cheaper and is bio-degradable.

An alternative to plastic that is environmental friendly and self-destructible after X number of years.

Invent an auto-assembler. Type in what you want, it searches for blueprint on internet and build for you. :P

    Type in...

    Nikon D3s

    300mm f2.8 VR2

You are absolutely right in that it is not a good strategy in the long run. To add to that, a lot of these so called invention needs a lot of work to get them to a commercial product stage and a whole lot more money to get them to the market. Billions of dollars poured into research and not a whole lot of these have been commercialized. Most researchers objective is to get paid to do the research and nothing else. Ask them if they are keen to take the invention into the commercial world and all of them will shun the offer.

We have IP lawyers in Singapore that handles drafting and the process of getting the IP, but most IP drafts get sent overseas for examination and approval / grant. We do not have so called IP experts here - researchers and their superiors cannot ascertain for sure and can only assume that nobody is working in the field that they want to work on based on hearsay or communique in the academic circles.

Then you probably need a VAM - a personal money printing machine to print more $$$ for you to place your bet in order to win more money because you could only win all you could bet with whatever in your pocket.

    Is this being redundant?

    PS. VAM = Value-Added-Machine
