Default Melbourne Trip (20-29 Dec 2003)

Haven't got much time for photo shooting in the whole of 2003 because of NS commitment, so on 20 December 2003, i decided to get on a plane and tour Melbourne. There's where i know for sure that i've compiled some of my best photos of the year. Thus i've decided to post some of my best shots here, just to share with you guys. I'll be really gladful if you can give your critiques, for me to learn and shoot better in the future.

ps: all are shot with these wonderful stuffs:
*Minolta X-700 film SLR
*24mm/2.8
*50mm/1.7
*Fuji Superia 200 films
*no usage of tripod/flash in these pictures.

Enjoy! and don't forget my critiques!

I enjoyed the people photos. Very good candid portraits. And yes, the colours are wonderful.

For the guy in the hood, I would have liked to see more of his environment.

Woah , nice series dude. How much time did u spend there again? Alone? Cos i don't see how u can get these shots if u go travelling with someone who doesn't shoot. ( stuff like wait for the right smile ... or walk out of the way to get that nice shot )

I like the little girl in blue. Got it just right.

The guys with the violin was nice group composition. The ground seem to act like a reflector, nice touch. Although i feel that the violin seemed to be a little chopped off.

And i lurve "We don't yell to sell" looks so National Geographic.

Your strength seems to lie to color and not B/W & your compositions are pretty good. Oh yeah , this is the best out of how many shots?

Cheers

Was this in a shopping center or something? I'm kinda surprised how come they let you shoot in the premise.

That's Victoria market. Its a tourist spot in its own right so taking photos is not a problem.

I spent 9 days there. And yup, this's my first trip oversea alone, but i stayed at my friend's place, he's studying in Melb Uni. Cut cost by a huge factor! And most of these shots i took are with my friend, he isn't a photographer, but he does appreciate nice photos.

For the musicians, i try to make it so it'll make the photo 'tighter', so as to focus the viewer on the guitar player and his mood in the foreground, whilst paying little attention on the 2 violin players in the background. Hehe thanks anyway for the critique, i try to take something like this, but for a more 'fuller' picture and see how it goes..

By the way, i sort these better ones out of a total of 500+ pictures, 8 rolls of films and the rest are taken with my digital camera, Canon A40.

This is Queen Victoria Market located in Melb City. In fact, some of them gives me a strange stare whilst i'm trying to focus on my subjects. But most of the store owner just 'heck care' and continue in their business or just slack there. Hehe..

Excellent photos, especially the color pics of people! My fav is the "peeping girl". The B&W shots could perhaps do with a slightly bolder composition to keep the viewer's interest in the photo.
